This vintage Mad Hatter tea party shoot was the dream child of the lovely lady behind Swoon Over Style – and we can definitely see where she gets her name, because we can’t stop our swooning, no matter how hard we try (not that we’re trying hard). The gorgeous Philadelphia light was captured through the cities iconic cherry blossoms by Amie Schroeder Photography and the resulting shoot is so magical it’s hard to pick a favorite part… though the floral design from Hana & Posy is absolutely knocking my socks off. Get ready to lose yours too, because I’m about to send you to the gorgeous full image gallery!

After my own wedding the summer before, I discovered my love of styling. Bringing an idea and concept together to create inspirational images for weddings and photo shoots became a new found passion. Most of the items selected to style this particular shoot came from my love for all things vintage. I spent months picking through flea markets and consignment shops to form the perfect collection of spectacular items that I ended up using for this shoot.
My Grandmother had passed on to my mother an array of vintage antique china, which I just had to use. Spring had just begun and my two vintage mustard yellow chairs kept staring at me as the perfect centerpiece needed to create a mystical, almost dream like, Alice in Wonderland themed approach. I wanted to also incorporate the delightful cherry blossom trees that were in full bloom in Philadelphia. I collected all of my images for color and style inspiration on my Pinterest page, which helped me formulate my ideas of using a cluster of milk class compotes, pastel colors, gold antique dishes, and a splash of the yellow. I also pinned pictures that I wanted Amie to capture replicating a California white airy glow.
I loved the idea of using the theme from the Tea Party in Alice in Wonderland to set up the table. I was inspired by the idea of mystical, dream like state. I included a vintage stopwatch that I picked up in a local Philadelphia Flea market. I also stacked some of my wedding dishes and my grandmothers antique dishes and teacups on top of the table covered in lace fabric found at a consignment shop.
Photographer Amie Schroeder embraced my ideas and ran with them, capturing the natural lighting of the day, and chasing after my husband and I as we frolicked around Kelly Drive and the Azalea Garden in Philadelphia. At one point, the area we had set up turned into an open dog park and the playful canines chased us out into the bushes where Amie got some amazing shots!
Hana & Posy were amazing to work with, as well! They have the cutest little shop in Northern Liberties, Philadelphia filled with wonderful votives, vases, and accessories for any type of event. I brought them my ideas for the shoot and the types of flowers that I wanted to incorporate and they immediately took the concept, added to it, and created a masterpiece of floral beauty. Some of my favorite flowers used were, Dusty Miller, Brunia Berries, Lisianthus, and Craspedias.
After making my husband grow a mustache, collaborating and working with amazing artists/venues, my ideas and visions came alive in this amazing romantic photo shoot.
