Before you even take one peek at the prettiness below, I’m going to warn you – the flowers you are about to see will knock your wedding-loving socks off. They are unlike anything I’ve ever seen and have been dancing around in my dreams since the moment I set my sights on their show-stopping stems. The master behind the blooms? The Bride herself, owner of Noonan’s Wine Country Designs. I officially tip my hat to this lovely lady, in full admiration, because she not only created a masterpiece of a wedding, but one that is as intimate as they come. See so much more here.
From the Bride & Groom… Coby and Katie live in San Luis Obispo, California, and met in this sweet town six years prior to their wedding while working at neighboring wineries. Coby, a winemaker, and Katie, a marketing director and floral designer, crossed paths a few fateful times before their first date in 2006. After a few glasses of wine, there was no looking back, and from that moment they began their journey of life together. Their passions of wine and flowers created a passion for one another which lead to their engagement in the fall of 2010. In searching for the venue, it had to be a place surrounded by nature’s beauty, and when they first walked down the pathway to Griffith Woods, an intimate but stunning redwood forest set down below a beautiful vineyard, it was the perfect place for them to start their lives together.
Katie, being a floral designer, wanted to create a harmonious look of beauty that would not compete with nature, but would make a lasting impression on guests. As guests arrived they were greeted with a “Flower Bar,” where every guest received a fresh handmade boutonniere, bracelet, corsage or hairpiece to choose from. The bride’s father is an arborist and trimmed all the redwood trees to create perfect lighting upon the ceremony and reception. With the redwood branches that were trimmed, the couple created place card settings for each guests that were laid in a moss-covered mattress spring. Tablescapes were created in wooden boxes made from old redwood siding off of her parents’ house and filled with beautiful phalaenopsis orchids, kale stocks, 4” plants and more to create living centerpieces that trailed down the tables and matched the moss-covered table numbers and wooden place cards. For each bridesmaid’s bouquet, Katie wanted a unique style for each of her closest friends. Katie’s floral design teacher at Cal Poly, Melinda Lynch, came in to create five unique, A-line-styled bouquets with textured flowers in various yellows that would pop against their dresses. The groomsmen wore pocket square boutonnieres with craspedia billy balls and lamb’s ear that slid seamlessly into the pockets of their gray suits.
Coby, the groom and winemaker, made the wine and beer for the wedding and all beverages were served from kegs, keeping it sustainable! A limo just didn’t fit the setting of the redwoods, so the bride, her bridesmaids and her dad rode down the road in a classic green VW bus. For the ceremony backdrop, barn doors were removed from the bride’s parents’ actual old barn and set up for the wedding.
