From the Bride... Tom and I met in 2008 on a Friday evening in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago ... at a bar! Yes, it can happen. I was out celebrating a promotion with my work friends, and Tom had just come from a Cubs game with his friends. Our pals were the ones who struck up conversations in the group, but we were eventually drawn to each other and talked the night away. Tom asked for my phone number, called me the next day, and the rest, as they say, is history!
Tom and I knew we wanted the style of our wedding to be very clean and modern with a few quirky touches to match our personalities. The venue we chose was white with gray cement floors, so we decided on a white and charcoal gray base palette with deep purple as the “pop” of color. We chose all purple flowers, purple lighting and added chevron-patterned paper, décor pieces and mercury glass votive holders to give the simple, modern space some texture.
One moment Tom and I will never forget is when we read our vows to each other during the ceremony. We wrote our own vows and were both extremely nervous to read them in front of so many people. The words were emotional and meaningful with bits of comedy — very reflective of our relationship. And, when we were done with our vows – in an intimate moment only we knew about - I whispered “We did it!” to Tom, which made us both chuckle, and the nerves of the day disappeared!
