From the Bride... Our day was about celebrating our love for each other and connecting our families. The decision to have a very small and intimate wedding was not an easy one to make, but we were drawn to the idea of bringing our close families who live on the opposite sides of Australia together as one over a number of days. Beyond all of the details, it was the people, setting and the time of day that created the magic. For Brett and me, the beach is a sacred place — it is where we met, and it is where our happiest memories have been created. Watego’s Beach is nothing less than breathtaking in its beauty. Add to that the peaceful energy of a new day and our dream wedding was already made.

Our officiant, Jacqui Patterson, was stunning in her support and responsiveness. She made it all so easy to bring together a ceremony that was uniquely "us" and has that special gift of making everyone around her feel at ease. Of course, one of the potential pressure points with a sunrise wedding is the time taken before to get ready. Jacqui, our florist Robyn Hulme and hairdresser Billie Harvey brought a professional calm and ensured that all the essential pre-wedding elements came together seamlessly. My beautiful sisters and bridesmaids Carly and Felicity also took the pressure off from our 3 a.m. wake-up; Felicity with her meticulous make-up artistry and Carly with her laughter, attentiveness and cups of tea!

One of the best parts about having a sunrise wedding is that you get to have a breakfast reception. Our chef, Kate from Citrus Deli, provided a delectable spread of fresh pastries, eggs hollandaise, pancetta, mushrooms and asparagus. My mum, Anwen, created a bircher muesli to die for, and Brett’s mum Jennie made our orange and almond wedding cake that was perfect for morning. All this was brought together by lots of coffee, champagne, laughs and love-filled speeches. Another bonus is that after a sunrise wedding the day goes on forever. Afternoon naps were essential and served to put us back in the mood for more partying and feasting. Our dinner reception was held at a favorite restaurant, Harvest in Newrybar.

We have already relived our day numerous times through the exquisite photography of Kellee Walsh. Kellee captured not only the physical elements but also those less tangible components of emotion, mood and energy. She was our ideal photographer – capturing all this in her warm, smiling, unobtrusive way. In short, we had our dream wedding. Everything that we hoped for came together, and the culmination of those elements provided an experience that surpassed what we thought was possible. To me, as a bride, it proved that planning and attention to the details that count (for you) does give you the best chance of having your dream wedding, but ultimately that the magic is realized in the simplest of things — the look in your man’s eyes as you walk towards him, saying your own vows, a beautiful sunrise and having your family around you.
