If there’s one thing that screams character and downright elegance, it’s the beauty that is Maine’s wonderful shoreline. From the Bride… Matthew and I started planning our wedding with one goal in mind: to get our fabulous families and friends together in one place. Since our families are spread out across the United States, we decided to plan a DIY destination wedding in Maine. While this made the planning process more complicated – given we are both from Saint Louis – in the end, it was totally worth it. We were able to use Matthew’s family’s property in the small coastal town of Cushing, Maine, for the reception and a small chapel built in 1850 for the ceremony.
Many of the details of our wedding, from the paper flowers to the use of apothecary jars, were inspired by the many gorgeous weddings featured on Style Me Pretty. We wanted our wedding to feel intimate and unique. The chapel was adorned with hanging baby’s breath balls, and the tent for the reception was raised in a field of lupine right off the rocky Maine coast. Guests entered and filled out “keys to success,” enjoyed Italian cuisine for dinner and were entertained by the wedding games one of my bridesmaids, Ashton, had Matthew and I play. Wedding pies and dancing topped off the night before guests left with their homemade vanilla favors.
When I look back on our wedding, it was a perfect day, and I am so grateful for all the loved ones who helped. From my dear friend Shari who arranged the flowers and made the bouquets, and my brother’s fiancé and makeup artist Irina who beautified everyone’s faces, to the best bridesmaids in the world who crafted for a week non-stop, it was amazing to have so many people step forward to joyfully help. I still feel overwhelmed by the amount of love and support that was expressed during that week. Matthew and I had the perfect wedding, and our dream of having our family and friends close and involved was fulfilled.
