It is not hard to see why this couple fell in love with Miller Lash House -- Beautiful tall trees (check out the dramatic ceremony backdrop!), gorgeous open meadows, and spaces offering lots of creative running room for design. I adore the simple, understated elegance of this wedding. They kept the focus on their love, friends and family, and the natural gorgeousness around them did its thing on its own! From the Bride... When David and I started planning our wedding, we both agreed that we wanted a simple and elegant evening for our guests, just a beautiful summer evening of dinner and dancing. As silly as it sounds, we didn’t want the focus to be on us! So we set off planning the basics. After researching for months, we settled on our venue: The Miller Lash House. The natural beauty of the landscape made the venue just perfect for our romantic evening. At our first meeting with the venue, we booked the only date they had left in 2012, on June 30th, which coincidentally enough, is the exact same date that we moved into our new house in 2011. It was only after we told our parents that we booked the venue that we learned the connection this house has with both of our family histories. The Miller Lash House used to be the main residence of the president of Scarborough College. He used to host grand parties there for members of student council and other important guests. My father, who was formerly a student body president of Scarborough College, attended these parties with my mom back in the '60s. They dined and danced in the very same place that David and I would be married. On David’s side, the connection was strong as well. Days after being born, David’s mom and dad decided that his first outdoor experience should be a beautiful one, so they packed him up and took him to The Miller Lash House grounds for their first family outing.
After booking the venue, we set our sights on catering and photography. We settled on the caterer with the best reputation and the only one that we met that helped us stay within our budget: Daniel et Daniel. After meeting with a few photographers, we met with Therese De Jesus of ARTIESE Photography. We think we got very lucky with Therese. She is exactly what we wanted — she is funny, very personable and such a gifted photographer who can capture beautiful moments with incredible artistry and perspective. So once the big things were out of the way, we focused on the details. We chose classic ivory, champagne and light green with dark purple accents as a color scheme.
Guests arrived to the ceremony in style, with the girls and I peering out from the house as they made their way to the outdoor ceremony site. I walked down the aisle to "Ombra Mai Fu" (from Handel’s opera “Xerxes”), performed live by Elaine Overholt, Gillian Stecyk, and Melissa Shriner, three amazing vocalists with whom David and I work. The standout moment for me that day was seeing David for the first time looking incredibly handsome in his Hugo Boss suit. All our loved ones looking back at me, and I will never forget that moment as long as I live. Together David and I watched as the evening unfolded, from the glorious food, the champagne toasts and the laughter, to the dance that lasted five hours without a moments rest, all thanks to our incredible DJ Rich Sweet. All in all it was the most perfect evening we could have hoped for. When closing time came, the dance was still going! David and I fell into our limo, feeling that we had done everything we originally sought out to do. Our loved ones danced, dined, drank and forgot their cares and worries for a night. That, to us, was everything. We will always feel truly blessed that we were there to experience an unforgettable evening and will always remember it.
