I love Summer just as much as the next person, but when it comes down to picking a favorite season, Winter wins my heart - without a doubt - every.single.time. So, when I first laid my eyes on this drop-dead gorgeous e-session captured by Julie Hill Photography, it was an insta-grin moment from image one. From Julie Hill Photography... Kate and Kevin are an energetic, fun-loving couple truly in love with each other. I had so much fun shooting this Canadian winter engagement session and found myself smiling along with the couple as I shot the photos. Initially we set a date for the shoot but didn't expect the season to turn from fall to winter so fast. Kate and I talked about rescheduling, but in the end, we decided that we could put up with the cold and really give a truly Canadian winter feeling to the shoot by incorporating winter as our theme. Since the couple has a lot of family living in sunny Florida, which is also the wedding location, this was the perfect opportunity to showcase what living in Calgary, Alberta in the winter is all about.
The shoot started off in the snowy meadows of Cochrane Ranche Historic Site. This was the perfect winter setting with untouched snow and many western elements that perfectly reflect the history of Calgary and the surrounding area. We choose a warm wool blanket to start off with for the couple to cuddle in, then we added some vintage props along the way. A snow sled, a bright red lantern, hot chocolate with whipped cream and even some Canadian maple cookies. The perfect prop was the gold engagement ring that we nestled into the green needles of the surrounding pine trees. Then it was off to the local coffee house for some warm beverages. The couple got cozy and sipped their drinks with a happy glow. Kate and Kevin are a perfect match for a perfect Canadian winter engagement shoot.
