Kyle and I got engaged shortly after finding out that he was being honored by his company with a three year contract as an expat in Paris. Kyle decided not to wait until we arrived in The City of Light to seal the deal. In an intimate proposal at our home in Houston, with the help of Edith Piaf tunes and a candle lit Eiffel Tower Kyle “brought Paris to us”. Of course I said yes! I was being asked to spend the rest of our days with my best friend, the love of my life, the kindest man I know. And kick it all off with an amazing adventure with my favorite person in Paris. I’m all in.
After the excitement of the proposal settled, I realized I had never been the gal to envision my future wedding. Oh, and we kind of had to get the ball rolling because we were uprooting our lives and moving to another country in just two months. What now? We decided to start with what was most important to us – an exceptional location that would be great fun for us and all our loved ones. Aspen holds a special place in our hearts because it was our first trip together. The active, outdoor Colorado lifestyle represents who we are and what we love. Perfect.
In the very capable hands of our wonderful wedding coordinator Brooke Hill, the rest began to fall into place for this clueless bride. We had to trust that our decisions were the right ones from 5,000 miles away. Luckily, everything surpassed our expectations, and we had the wedding of our dreams we didn’t even know we had! The T lazy 7 Ranch was the ideal location for our ceremony, with the mountains as our backdrop. From the ceremony to the cocktail hour to the reception, each part of our big day was accompanied by just the right music, just the right mood and just the right people. There was even the extra gift of my little, tiny grandma and aunt flying all the way from England as a surprise.
One touch that was incredibly special to us was honoring our mothers. In lieu of wedding favors we made donations to two charities - The ALS Association in memory of Kyle’s mom and The Michael J. Fox Foundation in honor of my mom. This is something we will continue to do each year on our wedding anniversary.
What a true pleasure to have shared this amazing occasion with all those so dear to us. We will carry these fantastic memories with us forever. Thanks a million to everyone involved in creating such an outstanding kick-off to the rest of our lives together!
