Greystone at Piedmont Park Conservancy was the flawless host in urban Atlanta for a celebration complete with striking florals and stunning details from Brette Start Floral & Event Design. From the Bride… Clifton and I are from opposite sides of the country — Los Angeles and Atlanta — and we met in Rhode Island. Seven years, bouts of long-distance and two graduate degrees later, we have friends all over the country, and we wanted to bring them all together, with our families, for a hitchin’ celebration that was fun and comfortable. To honor the memory of those who couldn’t be with us and to symbolize the coming-together of our families, Clifton carried his grandfather’s pocket knife and my grandmother’s handkerchief stitched with the word “Memories” in Italian, and I laced a light blue ribbon from Clifton’s baptismal gown into my dress with a bit of family lace and a button from my grandmother. In my bouquet, I carried a delicate lace handkerchief Clifton’s mom got thirty years ago, hoping it would one day go to Clifton’s bride.
We picked Greystone at Piedmont Park for our ceremony and reception because it was a beautiful, natural setting right in the heart of Atlanta but provided a little shelter from the February weather. Guests stayed across the street at the W Hotel Midtown and walked through the park to our ceremony. As soon as they were inside, the skies opened up, and rain showered down while we said our vows. The raindrops made the candlelight all the more sparkly. We stayed dry and warm, dancing the night away, and the rain stopped just in time to throw petals for our getaway.
We can’t say enough about our photographers, Chris and Allie from The Reason I Love, and our event coordinator and florist, Brette Start. They perfectly captured the fun, family, friends, and togetherness that we’d hoped to feel on our wedding weekend. We couldn’t have done it without them, and we now count them among our friends.
