From J. Layne Photography… Alan and Elizabeth’s wedding day was focused around their family and close friends. Elizabeth designed the ceremony and reception to be outside on the beautiful marsh at The Outpost at North Hampton in Amelia Island. This location isn’t typically used for weddings, but it was an absolutely perfect hidden gem. We like to describe their wedding as a “vintage, southern, DIY soiree.” She wore a beautiful, lace Lazaro gown that fit so perfectly into the elegant and handmade elements in their wedding. Everything was planned out and made by hand by close friends and family. Elizabeth’s grandmother played such an important role on her wedding day, and she was there for Elizabeth every second of the day. The day felt very much like a fun, relaxed, beautiful, close-knit party with the guests mingling, drinking, dancing and just having fun. By the end of the night, we felt like a part of their family!
There were many extra special moments about their wedding day — the lady the groom is hugging in the wheelchair is the groom’s step-mother, who passed away shortly after their wedding day due to her battle lost with Huntington’s disease. It was such a special moment as he hugged her goodbye, and as photographers, it was an emotional but beautiful moment we were able to catch on camera. The diamond in the bride’s ring is a family heirloom diamond. The groom’s great-grandfather traded three cars to get that diamond to give to the groom’s great-grandmother. DIY projects include the florals, which were from Publix and designed by Carol Garrity; the cupcake stand, cupcakes, and cake, which were all handmade by Stacy Ramponi; the thumbprint tree by the bride’s sister-in-law; and the invitations and program fan. The whole set-up came to life by the help of their family.
Elizabeth says her most memorable moment was walking down the aisle with her grandmother to see her groom. Her advice for new brides: “BREATHE! This is your most important day, and it goes by so fast. Just take it all in and smile. And at some point during your reception, pull your husband aside, and together, look at all of your friends and family having a great time. And know that all your hard work and time was worth it!”
