If nothing else, a collapsed marquee the day before your wedding HAS to mean that you can make it through anything. Powering through, this adorable bride made the best of the situation and settled - as if it was really settling, just take a gander at these amazing images from Cloudface Photography - for the tennis court on the premises of the downright gorgeous Merribee. After the lovely nuptials, these guests seriously got down to some great tunes from The Baker Boys with the backdrop of homegrown lavender and rosemary plants lining the courts' fences. From the Bride... After more than a year of planning I never expected to arrive at the venue the day before our wedding and find the marquee collapsed, but that’s exactly what happened. Instead of spending the morning putting the final touches on interior decorations, our bridal party battled strong winds in an effort to get the marquee upright. After many hours of (literally) blood, sweat and — thankfully — not too many tears, we made the tough decision to abandon the marquee and see what else we could work with. And that’s when we discovered the tennis court. It was flat, dry, protected from the wind and could just squeeze in an 18-meter marquee. So we went for it. It turned out to be the best decision we made for our wedding – dancing under the stars with a twinkling love heart overlooking us and all our friends and family around us was magical. And we put the old marquee to good use too — it was the perfect spot for our bridal party shoot!
Always up for a challenge, we did a lot of DIY projects to help our wedding represent us — fun, quirky and laid-back. The venue we picked gives you the freedom to do whatever you want, which was perfect for us. My mother and I made all of the origami hearts for the save-the-dates and place tags, my father-in-law grew more than 150 rosemary and lavender plants that were used to line the fences of the tennis court, and I had lots of fun making the props for the photo booth Kyle made. I spent months scouring second-hand stores for the random collection of vases, jars and teapots we used on the dinner tables. As a thank you to friends and family who helped us in the lead up and on the day of our wedding, we invited people to take home a vase and flowers of their choice.
We loved every moment of our wedding — highlights include getting married under the gumtrees, my beautiful bridesmaids singing Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes "Home" while we signed our marriage certificate, Kyle's brother Dylan, the best man, giving his heartfelt speech and spending the night in the gorgeous converted grain silo at Merribee. Oh and how could I forget — my hair! The girls at Scruples did the most amazing job — I didn't want to take it out at the end of the night. We are so grateful to all of our vendors for their help in making our day so perfect.
