NYC Wedding at Liberty Warehouse from Danielle Honea Photography

I so wish I was at this wedding! It’s fun, bright, and full of so much love that you can actually feel it radiating off the gorgeous images by Danielle Honea Photography. Plus, the bride works in the fashion world, so you know it was a beyond beautiful day! I was trying to pick my favorite details of the day, but it’s pretty much impossible. I love the ring bearer’s outfit, that fabulous cake, the beautiful bridesmaids, and I’m sort of dying to know what was in those pretty little West Elm favor boxes! See even more right here!

From the Bride… I can say with confidence that Leighton and I are not only a very unlikely couple, but also a very unique couple. I am a director of sales for Project Trade Show and love all things fashion. I work in a “hustle and bustle” job with fashion designers, so I have to be assertive and out-spoken. Leighton is a MTA NYC bus driver. He’s a handsome, soft-spoken man with a Jamaican accent. He’s most comfortable in sneakers and always in his uniform. Basically when we meet, he couldn’t have cared less about fashion. I met Leighton on a blind date, arranged by my best friend and her boyfriend. I must admit, I was doubtful from the very beginning. I left the date thinking, “Leighton is just not my type.” I did not want to go on a second date with him and avoided his phone calls. Leighton, on the other hand, called my best friend’s boyfriend after our first date saying, “Thank you for setting us up — I just met my future wife!” Fast forward one year: I was at my best friend’s birthday bash, and so was Leighton. We finally talked that night. And we talked, and talked … the whole night! From that day forward, we have been inseparable. Imagine my surprise! Leighton became my friend, my charmer and my unexpected prince! We fell in love and slowly merged our polar opposite lives together. We complement each other perfectly. He slows me down when I’m busy and stressed, and I’ve introduced him to his new obsession: fashion.

The best part of the story is yet to come. Leighton set up a Mother’s Day party at my Brooklyn condo with all our friends and family. We were there for what I thought was a Mother’s Day celebration, but it was actually an elaborately-planned marriage proposal. Leighton coordinated the whole thing with our family and friends. I’m a hard girl to surprise, but he pulled it off! He’s a true gentleman, so before he proposed, he asked my father for my hand in marriage. He sat next to me halfway through the party and slowly turned towards me. I was completely oblivious and distracted with my family, but all of a sudden I noticed the mood of the room changed. It was focused on me. Leighton took my hand, looked at me and asked me to be his wife! I was in shock. I looked at my father, then back at a nervous Leighton and I said “yes,” of course!

Our wedding was tons of fun — a party with 250 friends, family and all things fashion! Our theme consisted of fresh orchids; bright jewels and tons of love. The Liberty Warehouse was the setting, which borders the New York harbor, the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge. As our guests were seated, the sound of passing boats echoed through the air, and the warm kiss of the afternoon sun set the tone for the rest of the ceremony. We were married at sunset and surrounded by stringed, cream-colored orchids, the smiling faces of our favorite loved ones, tears of joy and the smell of the ocean. After our emotional ceremony, during which my father gave me, his last daughter, away, we rushed off to capture our first images as husband and wife. Our guests were entertained by the sound of calypso music and the picturesque view of NYC buildings hugging the harbor. Each table was sprinkled with orchards, diamonds and shells — bringing a mix of elegance and a touch of harbor waters. After our grand entrance, we joined our guests with an amazing five-course meal and lots and lots of dancing. We were blessed with amazing toasts and speeches, which were told from the heart. Keeping with the fashion theme, our friends were dressed to impress. Leighton and I changed attire and made a second entrance to keep the party entertaining. I wore a soft pink dress with jewel-encrusted shoulders. Leighton, true to form, wore very fashionable, limited-edition sneakers! We will always remember our incredibly wonderful night.
