This wedding is everything sentimental, genuine, and absolutely beautiful all wrapped into one, thanks to the amazing images from Kelly Dillon Photography and this couple’s devotion to their unique family heritage. From the moment she said yes to his proposal – complete with her late grandmother’s diamond and fireworks fit for a dream – to the moment they cut the cake surrounded by the beautiful florals from Fabiano Florist, each and every detail and decoration is rooted in the love and support of generations before these two that have shaped their love for one another. And check.out.those.rings. They make me want to rummage through my grandmother’s jewelry box in hopes of finding something even half as beautiful. Scott and Lauren met in college at Fordham University in New York in 2005. They almost missed each other! After living in the same dorm for two years, they finally met late in their junior year. They were best friends first and quickly realized how perfect they are together. After graduation, Lauren moved back to Massachusetts, while Scott stayed in New York to continue his education. For three years, they saw each other almost every weekend, traveling back and forth on Amtrak. Finally, they reunited in 2009 after Scott was accepted to Tufts Medical School and moved to Massachusetts.
Scott proposed on 4th of July weekend 2011 with a very special ring: the diamond had belonged to Lauren’s grandmother, who had recently passed away. Scott knew how Lauren loved the 4th of July and how important family is to her. He thought how special it would be to propose on that weekend, as Lauren’s father had also proposed to Lauren’s mother on the 4th of July. While sitting on a beach in Edgartown Harbor on Martha’s Vineyard, Scott got down on BOTH knees and proposed. The couple was lucky enough to celebrate that night with all of Lauren’s family, who were together for the 4th of July holiday.
Lauren and Scott knew they wanted their wedding to be about family, food and friends. After getting married at Saint Paul’s Parish in Hingham, they invited all of their family and friends for a fun afternoon reception at Atlantica Restaurant in Cohasset. In honor of their family, they included wedding portraits of their parents and grandparents on the place card table. Lauren grew up helping her father in his garden and decided to have a “garden/wildflower” look to the centerpieces. Lauren’s paternal grandmother grew up on a farm in Maine, so the blue mason jars for the garden centerpieces celebrate this past. Underneath the mason jars and family wedding portraits, Lauren and Scott incorporated Italian lace belonging to Scott’s paternal grandmother, who was from Sicily. Lauren also used lace from her mother’s veil as her “something old”, wrapping the lace around her garden bouquet. Following in the “garden/wildflower” theme, Lauren and Scott added burlap squares to the Italian lace under the centerpieces and had custom-made burlap banners decorating the room.
