Toronto Wedding at The Berkeley from Meghan Andrews Photography

I love this bride.  LOVE her – and I am thoroughly convinced that she is my wedding-obsessed soul mate (she sooo is).  Not only that – but, she and her dashing groom really know how to throw a chic soiree. Their modern bash is what contemporary dreams are made of – and features bundles of killer style AND some of the most amazing DIY projects you will ever see.  It’s bright yellow hues meets a crazy cool venue meets beyond fabulous images captured by Meghan Andrews Photography – and it’s all just a hop, skip and a jump away in the full gallery.  Join me there for soo much more.

From the Bride… I’ve been obsessed with weddings from the time I was about 10 years old. That’s when my first sibling got married, and by the time I was 17, I had been a bridesmaid in three weddings. Not to mention that my sister-in-law runs a small business creating hand-made invitations and flowers. As a teenager, I was cheap labour. Since 2000, I’ve read every copy of Martha Stewart Weddings front to back many times. Wedding-obsessed might be a bit of an understatement.

Derek and I met through a mutual friend. Even though we were young, we could tell pretty quickly that this was forever. We were engaged last September, always knowing that we wanted a summer wedding. We’re both very laid-back and outgoing and really just wanted our wedding to be the greatest party ever. Non-traditional seemed to be the theme of the day. My dress was the perfect party dress — short with a skirt full of feathers. And since we knew our wedding would likely occur in the middle of a Toronto summer heatwave, we tried to keep the guys as cool as possible too. All of the decor was DIY — from the ribbon wall and the flowers, to the world’s most amazing cake-pop stand. We can’t say enough great things about our family and friends that were willing to help us — everything fell into place perfectly.

My advice for those planning now would be just have fun! Weddings are only as stressful as you let them be. I’ll admit there were times when I felt like I was going crazy, but everyone reminded me that all that mattered was having my groom beside me at the end of the day. All of the little things that can — and in our case did — go wrong just make for funny stories later.
