I nearly fell over in my seat as I was flipping through the images of this rustic country wedding -- The details are unbelievable! This bride's love for antiques and French materials shines through at each and every turn. The swinging bird cages, antique silver trays and old lanterns are just a few examples of the exquisiteness. And, oh my gosh, the gorgeous setting they chose for their portraits evokes this secret garden feeling that just....makes. me. melt! From Liz Stevens of Chilton's Antiques (The Bride)... I'm an antique dealer and the inspiration for the wedding was just my personal style and love of good design. It's really what my house looks like at home. I hate glitz and glamour — I find that really unnatural and it's not my style at all. I like raw, French materials — a rustic, country look. I wanted people to feel at home so they not only felt that the long, five-hour from Sydney was really worth it, but also that they were attending something that they probably wouldn't experience ever again.
The reason why Narooma is so special to us is that it is the place where we first fell in love. I asked James to drive down on the eve of a major football grand final as I did not realise at the time it was on that weekend. I had to drive to Narooma to drop off some documents to my parents (Sue & Bruce) who were on holidays there with my Auntie Von and Uncle John Stevens. James and I were just friends at the time but the first night was pretty special. We went for a walk down to the old wharf at the end of our street and just across the river from Lesley's farm, with a bottle of wine to watch the sun set over the river. I was talking too much as usual, and James said " Shut up and just enjoy the view." Right at that moment I knew he was my MR. RIGHT!
The best part of the day was seeing the look on people's faces when they arrived to the tent — they were speechless. People didn't know where to look first, as there were four areas set up. The space was designed so all 180 of our guests could move around. We had the main marquee, a wine tasting bar, a dessert bar and a separate lounge tent for people to sit privately, talk and soak in the romance of the farm and the fire pits. We placed chairs so people could sit by the open fire and catch up like you would have when you were kids while roasting marshmallows (an old Stevens family tradition).
