From the Bride… We decided to have our wedding on Cape Cod because it is a very special place for both of us. Alex’s family has a summer house on the cape, and I have visited the area many times as a child and again in college. We wanted to have an intimate wedding that really reflected our personalities, so we ended up doing a lot of DIY projects to personalize the ceremony and reception. We handmade the fabric pennants lining the path to the reception tent and across the driveway, as well as the paper pennants that spelled out “Happily Ever After.” I made my feather hairpiece, as well as the sparkle hair pieces for all of my bridesmaids. We also did ALL of the flower arrangements ourselves — the bouquets, boutonnieres (made by the groom himself), table arrangements, altar arrangements (my grandma did those!), flowers in dresser drawers at the ceremony, etc. We had a “Flower Arranging Party” at the house on Friday, and all the ladies (and some gents) helped make the arrangements. Other DIY items included the ceremony programs/tissue packets, drink stirrers with flags, cow and fish place cards, photo booth props and all of the signs. My mom even candied the ginger that was put in the dark and stormy drinks!
The best part about our wedding was that we were able to spend a lot of time with our friends and family who traveled from all over the world to celebrate with us. In addition to our family, friends from kindergarten all the way through to graduate school made the trip out to the tiny town where we were married. We hosted events throughout the weekend — a casual, beachside seafood dinner on Thursday night, “Tee Time and Tea Time” the day before the wedding (a golf outing for the guys and a bridal tea for the ladies), and we ended the weekend with a farewell brunch on Sunday, which was the perfect way to say goodbye to everyone before we left for our honeymoon.
