Heavens me, sweet Jacin of lovely little details is sending my seaside-loving self into a tizzy this morning, because this beach chic fête is filled to the brim with things that make my heart pitter patter. From the beachy hues to the amazing DIY’s to all the lovely blooms pouring out of this party – I just can’t contain my love for every bit of this beauty. From lovely little details… When Cary and I met for the first time to talk about her ideas, inspiration and dreams for her big day, she showed me a simple image of a driftwood wind chime she had spotted during travels with her fiance. Both avid surfers and nature lovers, Cary and Chris appreciated the simplistic beauty found at the beach, and we wanted to bring that through in to their wedding design. The beachy color palette of sandy whites, ocean blues and driftwood grays with pops of coral was something we tried to carry through in to every aspect of their day. Cary knew she wanted sea glass to play a part in her decor, so one Saturday, we packed up my car and took an eight-hour day trip up north to scour beaches for shards of soft, weathered glass in shades of white, sea foam green and blue. Cary also gathered the driftwood that I used to build the arch (Click here for DIY instructions!) — we wanted it to look simple and pretty, and I accented it with bushy, sand-colored beach grass; hydrangeas to represent Cary’s east-coast upbringing and Chris’ summers spent in Nantucket; eucalyptus and, of course, more coral charm peonies. We also used driftwood pieces to build the table “runners,” and incorporated capiz shells, sea urchin shells, sea glass, moss and lots and lots of antique bottles in shades of white and blue.
Cary was all about utilizing her artistic ability to create several pieces for the big day, from hand-illustrated/designed Kraft paper notebooks to use as favors (Click here for DIY instructions!), to painted wooden signs in the wedding colors (Click here for DIY instructions!). One of my personal favorite details of the day was the wooden, beachy ceremony aisle that we rented from Classic — it reminded me of the walkways that lead to the beach in New England and was the perfect way to pull the theme through right down to the ground level (literally!). With one parent on each arm, Cary made her way down that wooden aisle — lined with the quintessential antique blue masons filled with astilbe, beach grass, ranunculus and coral charm peonies — and walked towards her groom. With the sounds of ukulele players in the background, the sun shining and beach grass blowing softly in the wind, everyone felt like they were participating in something truly special.
Although much of the wedding took place indoors following the outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour, guests still felt like they were transported to Cary and Chris’ laid-back beach affair. With fabulous food, wine and good company, this wedding was one to remember by all who were involved, and it truly represented the loving, friendly guests of honor: the bride and groom.
