Because, after months of swooning over an uber-gorgeous Johanna Johnson number, she flew all the way to Sydney to try on the dress she just couldn't get out of her head. The result? A breathtaking bride wearing the dress of her dreams marrying the love of her life in a vintage-inspired fête that is beyond fabulous. From the Bride... On a beautiful summer day at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Melbourne, Australia, my husband and I (who are from two separate sides of the world: New Zealand and Canada) had all our family and friends join us for our wedding. We wanted a romantic, soft, glamorous wedding day with a vintage feel. Once finding my inspiration and pastel color palette, the rest just feel into place. The dress I HAD to have from Johanna Johnson was on my mind for months. The problem was it was in Sydney, and I was in Melbourne. After spending a few weekends searching for a dress in Melbourne, nothing could compare. I had to do it and fly to Sydney just to try it on, well aware that it may just not look good on me. My eyes lit up when I put it on, and I knew it was going to be my dress.
The ceremony in the gardens was fitted out with white chairs for the guests, white umbrellas (rain or shine) and fans for cooling off with vintage fabric hanging from the handle. Jazz music played in the background while guests and the bridal party arrived and again as the ceremony was closing. Jars hung from the aisle chairs with a selection of flowers, which were the same as the bridal party's. Jars also lined the aisle that the bridal party walked down. While the bridal party had photos taken, guests gathered at the reception venue bar before heading into the actual private room. The reception had an intimate cocktail theme, which gave the guests a chance to mingle and families to meet. Wine charms were made with the guests' names on one side and a word and definition on the other. The words were Forever, Soul Mate, Adore, Believe, Together, Journey, True Love and Bliss. Guests in the room had to find another guest with the same word — it was a great ice breaker. Jars with tea lights and flowers continued the look from the ceremony, which had white and off white doilies on high tables and along the bar. White pictures frames of different sizes also filled the room, giving directions for the wine charms, photo props and vintage fabric guest book, as well as informing guests of the wine selection and finger food options. Guests really got into the photo props and vintage guest book, which left my husband and me with great memories.
