Pyrmont Wedding by Yummy Cupcakes & Cakes + Bells N Whistles Events
I'm going to come right out and say it: I have a major crush on this wedding. This couple celebrated their nuptials in a non-traditional way and thanks to lovely talent at Bells N Whistles Events , their day turned out to be utterly spectacular. The bride and groom are unapologetically genuine in every moment of their wedding day and the photographs from Josephine Ki Photography feel like a lens right into the beautiful romance between these two. Every moment is intentionally focused on the bride and groom with the people in their lives that support them and the result is pure, visible joy. There is even more to see in the gallery, right here.
From Jennifer Kennedy of Bells N Whistles Events... Hedy and Laz wanted a small, fun, non-traditional wedding. Hedy has great style, and we wanted to use that style throughout her wedding. Initially, her main issue was finding a suitable venue to hold the intimate wedding. She was looking at venues like Pruniers (now Chiswick Gardens) and The Establishment. She wanted something that was close enough to the city for an after-party that went well into the night as well as a location she could hold the ceremony at. She’d seen many venues and was getting quite frustrated. I told her the problem with those venues was lack of exclusivity – something I strive for each wedding I work on. I suggested Café Morso, a venue she was familiar with that could offer great food, exclusivity and a great location. Hedy loved the idea and immediately called them to check availability and speak with the manager. Within a couple of days, her venue was all sorted, and Hedy was very happy, but most of all, her trust in us was immediate. Over the months, we referred wonderful vendors to Hedy. Our florist, Elaine from Butterfly Philosophy, was brought on board, and Patricia from Yummy Cupcakes and Cakes created a magical cake. The wedding plans progressed well. Every few weeks, we would email or call our consulting client to ensure her wedding was progressing and make sure Hedy was fine. About one month prior, during a tennis game, Laz broke his arm. The cast, it was decided would be removed the day before the wedding – Laz and his mates would take care of it.
After all the rain during the week leading up to the wedding, Saturday started out extremely foggy. Once the fog cleared, the sun beamed, and it turned out to be a perfect sunny Sydney day. Hedy and Laz ditched all tradition. This was a wedding all about them – what they wanted, what they felt comfortable with and what suited their personalities. They both got ready at home together and arrived at the venue together. They had photography on the wharf prior to the ceremony and when they saw guests arriving, they both sipped champagne and welcomed their guests together. No walk down the aisle, no bridesmaids, no giving away of the bride – just Hedy, Laz, their nearest and dearest, and Hedy’s Man of Honour, Christian. Hedy sparkled in a Collette Dinnigan creation which couldn’t have suited her more. For comfort and because of her height, Hedy choose a flat, jeweled sandal to her wedding. The whole outfit was suited to Hedy’s effortless style. The ceremony was short and sweet. Informal, yet beautiful, romantic and extremely funny! Straight after the ceremony Hedy and Laz sipped more champagne, laughed and chatted to their guests.
Once all the guests had moved inside and settled in their seats, Laz surprised Hedy with a music video clip of a quirky song sung in German (with some subtitles for the guests) that he had organised prior to the wedding, it was a hilariously funny film clip with lyrics referring to personal jokes about their relationship. They ditched the set menu or alternative drop — guests got to choose their own meals from the menu, and the entrees and mains were served in between two heartfelt speeches given by Hedy’s close friends. After dinner, the guests moved outside for Hedy and Laz’s cake cutting. After some mingling and a few more champagnes, Hedy went to change into her second dress – a short, black, one-shouldered Zimmerman creation that Hedy labeled her "Black Swan" dress. She looked amazing (as always) and was ready to party, but not before her last duty of the night: throwing her bouquet! The whole wedding party then moved on to an after-party in Darlinghurst where they all danced the night away.
