From Spindle Photography… I’m in love with this lakeside wedding that took place in a little white chapel this past summer. The bride, Katie, was wearing a Lilly Pulitzer scarf when Patrick, the groom, proposed, and the same print from the scarf was used for the groomsmen’s ties and Katie’s going-away dress (as well as the bow tie cookies at the reception)!
The Hank Williams wood cabin where the girls got ready (with red gingham curtains!), the aqua blue Lilly Pulitzer bridesmaid dresses, a sweet pink and green bridesmaids’ brunch planned by Katie’s aunt to start off the day, the ceremony in a little white chapel on the lake, the reception at her Daddy’s house, bow tie cookies, Krispy Kreme donuts, the ruffled neckline on Katie’s dress that was just so her personality … the warmth that a lake wedding in Alabama implies was absolutely brought to life in this wedding. It was so fun to be a part of a wedding that really reflected Katie and Patrick and their sweet, Southern love.
From the Bride… A week after getting engaged, I found myself on an eight-hour flight to Canada for a family ski trip. You can only image the stack of wedding magazines that I brought with me — in fact, I’m almost positive I had more magazines than clothes in my suitcase. Let’s just say I had my priorities straight. I knew deep down that when I saw “The Dress” it would be one of those “can’t eat, can’t sleep, reach-for-the-stars, over-the-fence, World Series” kind of feelings. I spent half the plane ride thumbing through magazines, turning down pages of dresses that I liked when lo and behold there IT was. I whipped out my sharpie and circled the dress fifteen times, ripped the page out of the magazine and sprinted to the front of the plane to show my mother. I could have cared less that the fasten your seatbelt light was on. I was a newly-engaged 22 year-old who had just found THE DRESS. My mother was thrilled and told me she couldn’t wait to get wedding dress shopping with me when we returned home. Upon returning home, I called the number from the Amsale ad and located the dress. I’m still not sure what came over me at that moment but I crossed my fingers and wished for the best. Unbeknownst to my mother, I had just ordered my wedding dress without having seen it in person or trying it on. A few weeks later, the dress arrived. It fit like it was custom tailored to my body. I never had one single alteration done to the dress. The fit and length were perfect and it was the dress of my dreams. When you know … you know!
