From Joan of Five Grain Events... Catherine was one of the most organized brides I have ever had the pleasure of working with, and she knew what she wanted: a fabulous band, good food, plenty to drink (and no lines at the bars) … oh, and blush — not pink! The ladies started the day in a beautiful suite at The Waldof-Astoria. Sonia Roselli’s talented team handled the hair styling for the bridal party, while Nika Vaughan painted faces. Catherine and all of her bridesmaids are natural beauties, so there wasn’t much work to be done!  The girls wore beautiful slate blue dresses, which perfectly complemented the blush and ivory floral palate. Meanwhile, the gents were relaxing at Conrad Chicago enjoying some downtime before the wedding began. Catherine and Phil chose not to see one another before the start of the ceremony, so both the men and women of the bridal party took a few separate group shots beforehand to make the most of the time. Tricia Koning got some great ones!

The ceremony took place at Holy Name Cathedral, a historic landmark in the city built just after the Chicago Fire.  Several passers-by peeked in to watch as the beautiful bride walked with her father down the aisle. Following the ceremony, the bridal party hopped on their trolley to get some photos together around Chicago. It was a little chilly, but luckily the rain that had been on and off all day lifted for a couple hours so they could some nice outdoor shots of the whole group! By the time Catherine and Phil arrived at the reception, The Ivy Room was all dressed up and ready to go! Fleur had created stunning arrangements for the tables, including a tiny blush orchid on each guest’s napkin. Frost lit the room with a soft amber glow and added wispy, ivory drapes to the windows. Food for Thought was passing hors d’oeuvres, and even the rain (which kept the cocktail hour inside instead of in the courtyard) didn’t dampen anyone’s spirit!

At the start of the dinner hour, the bridal party was rarin’ to go! Standing Room Only announced everyone in to a raucous audience of wedding guests. Once dinner was served, we launched into speeches. Now, in my line of work I hear a lot of toasts but I have to say that both Phil’s brother and Catherine’s maid and matron of honor gave some of the best I’ve experienced! They had the whole crowd both laughing and tearing up. After dinner, guests were invited to enjoy their delicious dessert buffet with tasty treats from Sarah’s Pastries, and Catherine and Phil shared their first dance to Van Morrison’s "Warm Love." From that point on, Standing Room Only lived up to their name and everyone had a fabulous time dancing the night away!
