Lake Huron Wedding at Deer Park Lodge by A Simple Photograph
The beauty of a destination wedding is it immediately puts all of your guests into vacation mode and allows for a more laid-back vibe all around. For a couple wed at Deer Park Lodge on Lake Huron, the celebrating continued all weekend with lounging, lawn games and bonfires. The culmination of it all was a romantic wedding held lakeside and a lovely tented reception. Take a stay-cation and check out every.last.detail by A Simple Photograph in the full gallery!
From the Bride… Stuart and I briefly met six years ago at a party and went our separate ways. Eight months later, we found each other again at a St. Patrick’s Day event and knew instantly that we had a strong connection. After two weeks and six dates, I left for a pre-planned trip to Australia, knowing I would come back for him. Four months later, within 24 hours of my return, we picked up where we had left off. We spent two years long distance as I pursued my master’s degree in Toronto and early career, but knew that this was the real thing. Stu proposed after an exciting and magical night at Niagara Falls with sweet bedside words in the early light of morning. We decided to get married not because our love is a fairy tale but because we have real love and want to go through the ups and downs of life together.
Our wedding was a weekend affair, starting with a welcome BBQ on Friday night with custom-made drink coolers, a potluck-style meal and s’mores at a beach bonfire. We were blessed with perfect weather for our big beach ceremony on Lake Huron. The bridesmaids wore Amsale dresses in different styles and colours. The groomsmen wore their own pants and shirts with different coloured ties that coordinated with the girls' dresses. Stu wore a Hugo Boss suit. It was important to us that each of our wedding party looked different, and using the Amsale line, everyone looked beautiful together. Our very good friends played “All Your Life” by the band Perry as I walked down the aisle and then put on a great show at our reception. The venue was a small cottage resort called Deer Park Lodge in Bayfield, Ontario. The owner, Kirsten, was amazing and did everything to help us make this day go smoothly. We had incredible support from our coordinators at He Put a Ring On It Events, who decorated the ceremony site and tent to look better than I could have pictured it. Erin Samuell from A Simple Photograph captured our wedding so beautifully and was a wonderful woman to work with and spend the day with — she even helped with my flowers when they arrived completely wrong! Thank you, Erin. Food is such an important part of our lives that Stuart and I made three different flavours of local, organic jam as our favours.

This wedding was our dreams come true — a weekend getaway with our closest family and friends that included many meaningful details. Everyone had a great time, partied hard and enjoyed the casual, yet elegant vibe. This truly was a reflection of the love and time of so many. This is what makes our weekend wedding the most incredible weekend we have ever experienced. Thank you to my maid of honor Laurie, bridesmaid Stephanie, mom, in-laws and everyone else who made the weekend what it was.
