I am in love with this wedding. Like head over heels. It has SO much heart, and Ampersand Photography captured every priceless moment in such a way I plan on spending the day oohing and ahhing over the sweetness. Can you really blame me? From Ampersand Photography… Joel and Amy are some of my favorite people on the face of the earth, and are dear friends. They both live in Rome, Italy, and work with college students. They met overseas — she was already living in Rome, and he was still wrapping up life in Ohio. They gave their relationship a fair chance though, and after months of Skype sessions and handwritten letters, they found themselves in love. Joel proposed just a few months after moving to Rome, and they began planning the perfect-for-them, thoughtful, handmade wedding that reflected all they hold dear: friends, family and special touches. They decided to marry in New Hampshire, where Amy grew up, so that those closest to them could attend their wedding. Even so, they had friends and family fly in from all over the world — literally — to be part of their wedding.
Because of the significances of their life in Rome, Joel and Amy included several Italian elements and traditions into their wedding day — readings in Italian during their ceremony, Italian food at their reception, gelato with the wedding cake, and the Italian ribbon-cutting ceremony as Amy departed the Shaker Museum for the wedding ceremony.
Amy wore a gold bracelet — the same one worn by her mother, her sister and her grandmother on their wedding days. She is a darling, artistic person and made most of the decor herself, including the vintage paper backdrop at the reception. She handcrafted calico bunting from her grandmother’s scrap fabric bin. She hand-drew the olive leaf motif on their invitations and program. While out on a regular weekend trip to the farmer’s market near her parents’ house, Amy met a woman selling flowers … and decided that her wildflower bouquets would be the most natural, perfect accompaniment to her already relaxed, sweet wedding decor. Joel and Amy decided to hold the ceremony at the church that Amy grew up in, but they held the reception at an old stone barn near the Enfield Shaker Museum (where they all got ready). . They served dinner and dessert on china that Amy collected at vintage stores and yard sales for months before the wedding. They gave away homemade buckeyes and miniature bottles of maple syrup as wedding favors as nods to where they’re each from (Joel is from Ohio and Amy from is New England). They had a friend run a photo booth for them and had guests sign pages of a photo album as a guestbook. They’re both dear, dear friends of mine, so shooting their wedding was one of the greatest privileges imaginable.
