Every now and then I lose my words. I stare at a wedding for so long, mesmerized by every flawless detail, that I literally lose my words and it becomes nearly impossible to write this little introduction. It’s just too good. Too beautiful. As is the case with today’s featured celebration. A wedding so lovely, so unbelievably rich and textured and soulful, that I can’t figure out the appropriate way to pay homage to all of its pretty. Which seems to be a pattern when we feature something designed by Lisa Vorce of Oh How Charming! and Mindy Rice with gallery worthy photography by Aaron Delesie…a trio who I have known and loved since the beginning of SMP time. So rather than gush in the stalker-like way I might normally do when we feature something by these three, I’m just going to let the perfect images tell the story for themselves. Oh and did we mention that the bride is the Marisa Homes, photography genius and LBB Member. Yep, it’s too good to be true! Click here for the full gallery.
From the Bride… We live in Golden Hill in San Diego and on our days off, we make it a point to go out and explore. There is a trolley stop a few blocks away from our house and we love to take it to the border and walk into Mexico and explore the local food culture that is booming in Tiajuna. On one of our trips to Mexico I saw a donkey that was painted like a zebra. It was a real tourist photo opportunity. We thought the donkey would be a great photo booth idea. Lisa found the cutest burro named Wyatt and each of our guests had their picture taken with him, it was a blast! One of the other things we loved: a tradition in Ron’s family is to have a piñata at just about any celebration We wanted to carry that tradition into our wedding and thought that it would work well.
From Lisa Vorce of Oh, How Charming!… Working with clients like Marisa and Ron is always such a dream for Mindy and me. We didn’t have any creative restrictions on us, so we went to town! For the ceremony, we really wanted to embrace the intimate and laid-back vibe of the courtyard at Korakia. Without a doubt, we knew Korakia’s gorgeous, hand-carved wood door would need to be the backdrop for Marisa and Ron during the ceremony. It was the perfect frame for them. Rather than traditional chairs, Mindy and I opted for a more residential setup. We created seating vignettes using antique wicker chairs and side tables. Mindy added beautiful floating florals in antique clay bowls on the side tables – and added fuchsia bougainvillea to Korakia’s existing climbing bougainvillea to enhance the color around Marisa and Ron as they stood in front of the door. It was one of our favorite ceremony set-ups yet!
For the dinner tables, we had the most exquisite overlays sewn. We found a beautiful diaphanous fabric and then had a crocheted trim sewn on the edges. The crocheted trim was beyond stunning and hung so beautifully off of the wood tables, allowing the wood legs to be exposed. Mindy and I also sourced antique clay taper candle holders, which were the most gorgeous shade of green. Such a great pop of color on the tables! This, combined with the antique hand carved wood pieces that Mindy incorporated in the floralscapes were my two favorite things. So unique and so stunning! I loved that Marisa and Ron wanted to incorporate the tradition of the piñata into their event. I had a beautiful cream and white piñata hand made for them so it fit in with their color scheme. It was so much fun to watch the piñata extravaganza later in the evening! Wyatt (the burro) was absolute perfection! Mindy made the most beautiful “saddle” for him using some of the fabric and trim we used for the table overlays and adorned him with a few floral details. So cute!
