From Eric Rudd Photography... The couple had one of their first dates at Story Inn restaurant. After discovering the how delicious their food was, they explored the quaint, history-filled inn. Denise, a Florida native, and Mike, who is from China, fell in love with all of its character and the garden, full of arches and gates. Denise described it as "a romantic place that will grow on you." For this southern Indiana, middle-of-nowhere, destination location, they rented out all of the inn’s cottages for their guests so everyone stayed on-site for the weekend. When planning the wedding, they immediately knew they wanted a small intimate affair with close friends and family only.

Denise got ready in the Old Mill Loft, originally a 19th century grain mill. She wore a lovely Maggie Sottero lace gown. Mike got ready in the Doc Story House, the former home of the doctor the town was named after. Mike had his and the groomsman’s tuxes custom-made in China. For décor, Denise loves all things classic. She chose a muted color scheme of periwinkle and sage with gold accents. The flowers and décor all reflected a timeless elegance, from Denise’s cascading bouquet and the vintage glass votive holders, to the gorgeous, gold-accented overlays. The centerpieces consisted of florals in soft spring colors in ivory, peach, pale pink and lavender. The couple wanted their guests to feel relaxed and to “celebrate life!” so they opted to have the cocktail hour before the ceremony. After guests enjoyed a cocktail, they took their seats in front of the barn. In VIP style, Denise was dropped off at the aisle by her father’s SUV and escorted down the aisle to the barn.

While the couple loved the rustic barn, they wanted to soften the look with lots of grapevine (which came from their own yard!), florals, candles and draping. They also incorporated a backdrop that served double duty by hiding the band. Denise was worried about muddy shoes (you never know the weather in the Midwest!) so she had a custom flooring created for her guests and bridal party to walk on. After the ceremony took place, the drape opened to reveal the band for dinner. The reception was held in an intimate tent, with gorgeous periwinkle blue tables and gold Chiavari chairs, a rustic lounge area and a classic buttercream cake. To top it off, beautiful ceiling draping added a touch of romance and elegance to the rustic outdoors. These jet-setters have a love for Italy, so they wanted to incorporate an Italian-like romantic and intimate setting. Strung candles hung from a nearby tree, which also served as a spot for the cocktail hour. Once night hit, the tree was aglow with hundreds of candles in the tree. Finally, a beautiful luminary path led guests from the reception site, through the garden and safely back to their rooms.
