When you layer fabulous textures like fuzzy herbs, exposed brick, and one drop dead gorgeous Jenny Packham dress you get this: a perfect mix of casual elegance so pretty it makes your heart skip a beat. And that’s exactly why we’ve fallen in love with this wedding today. It’s unassuming yet out of control beautiful. Elegant yet totally relaxed. Alexandra Meseke Photography captured the essence of this day perfectly and you can see even more right here.

From the bride: When we started planning our wedding, we both agreed that we just wanted to throw a fantastic party where all of our friends and family could gather and celebrate. The Green Building was one of the first venues we looked at, and we booked it on the spot. We loved the chandeliers and the exposed brick, and it had the relaxed yet elegant vibe we were going for. We played this up with an altar of cherry blossoms and collections of herbs in cement pots, with occasional stems of cherry blossoms scattered throughout. For our favors, we bought tons of herb plants from a nursery in Queens and Luke’s mom repotted them the day before the wedding. I was worried we would have tons left over since so many of our guests were from out of town, but they were a huge hit and most were taken by the end of the night.
We had a pretty laid back approach to wedding planning, and put a lot of trust in our vendors. They did such a wonderful job and I’m thrilled that the whole thing came together so beautifully. We were so impressed with Alexandra’s beautiful images and she was the first vendor we booked. We loved that she had an extensive photography background and was extremely professional, but was also so easy going and fun to be around . For catering we picked Naturally Delicious because their food was amazing and their “Glorified Cocktail Party” was exactly what we were looking for. Instead of a traditional sit down dinner they brought out tons of food in waves throughout the evening so that people could eat, dance and mingle all night.
One of my favorite touches was our Certificate of Marriage that was a gift from Luke’s mother. His family is Quaker, and as part of the Quaker wedding tradition, all of the guests present at the wedding are asked to sign the certificate as witnesses to affirm the marriage. I’m from New York and Luke is from Maine, so our certificate has a painting of a lobster climbing up the Brooklyn Bridge. It serves as a reminder of our wedding day and the vows we made to each other, as well as all of the people who came to share in our day. When I look at the certificate, I can remember how we felt to be surrounded by all of our family and friends, with everyone eating, drinking, dancing, singing and having a wonderful time.
