Austin Wedding at Barr Mansion by Mike Reed Photo

When the venue is Barr Mansion and the photographer is Mike Reed Photo it’s a given that we’re in for a very special treat. Well, this wedding definitely raised the bar to an entirely new level. Nothing tugs at my heart more than a southern wedding with all the fixin’s – and this fête is a fine example. You’ve got your gorgeous couple, a classic mansion with Victorian flair and exquisite floral arrangements by Petal Pushers…what more could you ask for? Lucky for us, there is more in the full gallery, so click here to enjoy!

From the bride…After meeting in undergrad and dating more than 6 years of dating Chris proposed and we began planning our special day. Our wedding was everything we hoped it would be – a cool evening in Austin, Texas shared with 300 of our family and friends. I always envisioned a laidback, whimsical, country-chic and most of all TEXAS wedding filled with touches that made the wedding our own. We love beer – Chris is actually a cicerone – so we knew we would serve craft beer from Black Star Co-op, a local brewpub where Chris works.

I’ve always envisioned myself walking down the aisle with a wreath of flowers on my head. I guess that is my inner flower child shining through. I practically live in cowboy boots even though I am the furthest thing from someone who grew up on a farm or in the country so I knew from the moment I started looking for a dress that I was going to wear my cowboy boots on my wedding day. After trying on a hundred or so dresses I finally found my dress and knew it was exactly what I envisioned.

I loved planning the wedding and doing arts and crafts to add touches that would personalize the ceremony and reception. We wanted guests to walk in and say this looks like Chris and Selena. We carry koozies everywhere we go so it was easy to decide on koozies as our favor that could also be used during the reception. I also made DIY touches for the wedding from the wooden directional signage to the wrapped tree with our pictures to the here comes the bride banner.

Our ceremony was definitely a reflection of our taste. Instead of a typical verse or poem, one of our close friends read the lyrics to Adam Sandler’s “I want to grow old with you.” After the ceremony we exited to the Beatles “All You Need is Love,” played by a classical guitarist. We love music and spent time carefully planning songs for the entire day from the ceremony to the cocktail hour and reception. We danced our first dance to Ripple by Grateful Dead – my favorite song of all time.
