From Ashleigh Taylor Photography... Salvador Dali has long been an inspiration in the creative world, and we wanted to bring his strong artistic and surrealist influences to the wedding world. From his personal life, we were inspired by Dali's passionate love for his wife, Gala. From his paintings we drew inspiration from the gentle bold hues, his use of repetition and the juxtaposition of movement and stillness all in one image.
Our wedding takes place on a beach with cliff-lined sandy plains and water that seems to span forever, much like the natural settings in Dali’s paintings. A floating window in the ceremony space creates a beautiful and peculiar backdrop, leaving a feeling of a story waiting to be told — a splash of color comes only from rose petals along the ceremony aisle. Textiles were draped throughout the wedding and we used branches reminiscent of Dali’s famous elephant paintings. Various vintage props and beautiful eclectic china and glassware from Casa De Perrin set the tables. Painterly tulips, sculptural large white calla and gloriosa lilies added an artistic touch to the florals. Laser-cut butterfly wings create shadows and other unexpected shapes, highlighting the single floating rose on the invitation suite, which also incorporated love quotes from Dali himself. The organic, textured wedding cake takes on a surrealistic shape with its tiers. While a timeless icon, there is definitely an air from a different era in Dali’s work, and we wanted to incorporate that in our settings and fashion for this wedding shoot. In a delicately detailed cream gown accented by a blue crinkle chiffon, our bride's "Gala" look was ethereal, vintage and reminiscent of the 1920s silhouette of feminine grace. Keeping everything truly romantic, our models, Mandi and Daniel, are engaged in real life and will be getting married in July 2013.
