From the Bride… We wanted our guests to feel relaxed and comfortable, as though they were in our backyard, but also have the feeling of it being a very special occasion. After searching venues, we found Blue Hill to be the perfect location to achieve that balance. We kept the wedding formalities to a minimum and just let the night unfold organically.
I woke up the morning of the wedding at the Mark Hotel, where my bridesmaids and I got ready for the day. The rain was pouring and pouring, forcing us to relinquish any hope of a sunny, summer day wedding. As much as we had hoped for and anticipated a summer wedding, the rain couldn’t have been more fun. With all our guests inside the restaurant and the rain pounding outside, it gave the day a really intimate feel, with everyone happy to be inside and warm. The endless votive candles gave the restaurant an amazing warmth. We were married at the Church of Saint Aidan, where TJ and I were both baptized. Following the ceremony, we had cocktails in the restaurant at Blue Hill and then dinner upstairs in the ballroom, followed by dancing downstairs again in the restaurant. We loved having different areas of the property to move around during the day/night so our guests felt as though they were roaming around a house with each room having a different feel. We wanted our love of food and fresh produce to shine through, so we decided to have TJ’s business supply our floral team with the most beautiful seasonal produce available. We had a display of amazing apricots and figs and cherries that were meant as display but were so beautiful and appetizing, our guests couldn’t help themselves! Our friends and family tasted all the delicious produce throughout the party, and it was so fun and relaxed to have people with fruit in their hands as they were sipping on the champagne! We achieved the backyard BBQ feel without even meaning too! Our florist Ned Kelly brought a bicycle to Blue Hill and designed it with the most beautiful flowers and little chalkboards signaling to guests where the dinner and dancing took place. It was so adorable and a great touch!
As far as advice, don’t sweat the small stuff! You won’t remember half the details you were hoping to achieve once the day unfolds, just smile and enjoy what is truly the best time of your life!
