The wedding of Caitlin McCarthy Geier to Patrick Fitzsimons Fisher was truly a family affair (as the couple are both one of five children and almost 30 grandchildren each!), teeming with a classic elegance and tradition, which was formal yet comfortable. Although the celebration was large, with 300 guests in attendance, the couple wanted the day to feel intimate every step of the way. The setting for both the ceremony and reception had personal significance to the couple, as La Jolla was where they first met, began their romance and got engaged! Caitlin and Patrick not only married in the church where Caitlin’s grandparents were married in over 50 years earlier, but additionally they held the reception at her childhood home in Rancho Santa Fe, the very place the couple first said “I love you” at the back door over seven years ago.

After a heartfelt Roman Catholic ceremony, the couple left La Jolla in Patrick’s grandfather’s 1947 cherry red Packard convertible (driven by him as well!) and made their way to the reception in Rancho Santa Fe. As the guests arrived to the Geier residence, they were escorted to a poolside cocktail hour filled with striped cabanas, topiaries, and a refreshing signature citrus cocktail, the perfect beginning to a sunny summer evening. There was even a little something for the tinest of guests, as they set up a children’s table filled with games, snacks, and toys all using the refreshing yellow and green color scheme. Little did the guests realize that they would soon be escorted to the tented tennis court, which had been transformed into a magical setting, inspired by a “secret garden.” The ivy walls surrounding it kept everything hidden from the guests until they fully stepped inside the tent through a arched wrought-iron gateway. The interior of the tent was transformed with chandeliers, boxwood, creamy hydrangea and garden roses. Additionally, the couple used their new monogram as a signature part of the décor, using it in places such as the custom calligraphed menus and hemstitched linen napkins. While everything was beautiful, the couple also wanted everyone to feel comfortable. Thus, lounge areas were created on the lawns adjacent to the tent for those guests who could peel themselves away from the dance floor. The lounges were lit with lanterns hanging from the 100-year-old pepper trees, decorated with monogrammed pillows and filled with many treats for the guests such as cigars, a full service coffee bar, and mini mint chip milkshakes, which were served with the wedding cake (as a surprise to the groom instead of a groom’s cake!). After everyone danced the night away, the evening ended with sparkler exit for the bride and groom! It was truly a magical night.
