Do you consider yourself a vintage lover through and through? If so, your afternoon just got that much sweeter with a photo shoot that has vintage details tucked into every brightly colored corner. The kind of details that need to be filed away for your upcoming wedding, bookmarked for inspiration on your dress hunt and pinned to your “I want my wedding to look exactly like this” board. Mirelle Carmichael Photography teamed up with a bevy of talented vendors including flowers by Sprigs Floral Designs so bright and happy, they almost require shades for viewing and crazy good-looking details whipped up by Captivating Events by Megan. And guess what, this doesn’t even scratch the surface. There’s a whole gallery full of goodness waiting to be devoured.

Flying Caballos is one of the most fantastic places to tie the knot on the Central Coast. I wanted to do an inspirational wedding shoot at the venue that would tie spring into summer with handmade kites, fairy light jars, watermelon pinks mixed with yellows and greens, and loads of vintage lace. The incredibly talented Erin McClellan of Sprigs Floral Designs designed a ceremony area just south of the main house, hanging clusters of button mums, spider mums, Amsterdam roses and craspedia from the trees, and accenting them with a hanging vintage window to frame the altar. Vintage lawn chairs with orange cushions and a burlap runner polished off the look.
Megan Clark of Captivating Events beautifully styled the shoot, setting the reception table with vintage fine china and antique sterling silverware accented with ivory and pale yellow napkins and a lace runner. Two long wooden boxes of floral arrangements (featuring peonies, amsterdam roses, ranunculus, queen anne’s lace, astilbe, tulips, button mums, chippendale garden roses, pittsoporum and gray reindeer moss) sat on either side of a collection of smaller arrangements in milk glass. Megan had a great time using the ‘collage’ of different materials and creating a unique look that allows the viewer’s eye to jump around (like the game I Spy), but at the same time appreciate that all the details worked together very well!
Additional milk glass arrangements of peonies, amsterdam roses, ranunuculus, tulips, queens anne lace, astilbe, chippendale garden roses and button mums sat on the sweetheart table, where the fabric kites hung in the tree over the table with hanging clusters of flowers and jars of fairy lights and reindeer moss. The bridal bouquet featured ranunculus, craspedia, astilbe, amsterdam roses, queen anne’s lace and tulips. The bridesmaids bouquets were smaller arrangements of ranunculus, amsterdam roses, astilbe and queens anne lace. The groom’s boutonniere featured craspedia, astilbe and pittsoporum wrapped in raffia.
A dessert table sat outside the main house, with the bright teal door and yellow walls serving as the backdrop. Judy Knapp of Cakes by Judy presented a beautiful, two-tiered white cake with raspberry filling and vanilla butter cream cheese frosting, which was accented with strips of vintage lace bands and topped with a bright watermelon pink peony. Craspedia, chippendale garden roses, spider mums and button mums surrounded the cake. A tiered cupcake stand, fresh cookies and fresh cream puffs were also served. Jessi Skipton Campbell, our hair and makeup stylist, created vintage-inspired looks for the bride and bridesmaids, based on a combination of their dresses and their personalities. The custom letterpress was provided by Alissa Bell Press, created on Holyoke Paper. The announcement cards featured three-color letterpress and paper ink edging. The menu cards were formed in the shape of a kite with lace attached as a string. Alissa’s inspiration was derived from the vintage kites and lace details that were incorporated through the shoot — lace is such a chic detail and yet so traditional! Event Catering was provided by Palazzo Giuseppe San Luis Obispo.
We had a wonderful time bringing this shoot together (shot by Mirelle Carmichael and Cheryl Tivar of Mirelle Carmichael Photography). The bride and groom happily posed for photographs with a babydoll southdown sheep named Arwen, who sported a floral necklace created by Erin, and a horse named Buddy Love!
