At night I dream of parties. The prettiest, most colorful soirees full of music, laughter and love – SO much love. And when I wake up, I spend my day starring at fabulous fêtes worthy of my wildest dreams here on SMP. This is one of those weddings – seriously dream-worthy, if not better. From the Bride… For our wedding, it was so important to us that our guests were able to identify our personalities in every detail that we created. We wanted our friends and family to say, “That is so Lauren,” “That is so Josh,” or simply, “That is so them.” Every detail, large or small, received hours of attention — from the succulent favors potted in mini galvanized pails with our message “Planted together on September 17, 2011”, to the giant reclaimed doors used as the bar top, down to the pencils we chose for the card catalog box in place of a traditional guest book. Even our drink selections were chosen from meaningful experiences we shared together and were beautifully written and explained on a slate chalkboard. We both cherished every moment of our wedding day, taking in every detail and each smiling face. Most importantly, we wanted our guests to have the best time at our wedding and for it to be the an truly memorable day. We were incredibly lucky to find amazing vendors who all understood the vision we had for our wedding day, and it was a great relief for us to see them embrace it with an equal excitement to ours. It was important to us to truly bond with each one of them leading up to our wedding, but the friendships we developed along the way were unexpected, and we were lucky enough to have those relationships continue thereafter. From the Couple’s Save-the-Date, Written by the Groom… I remember waking up, the foreign sun my alarm clock. Its unfamiliar rays buzzing excitement that wouldn’t allow me to search for its snooze button. There were only a few of us already settled into our summer home. Not wanting to be the reason we’d miss our first bus into Madrid to explore the unknown city, I quickly got dressed. I entered the lobby expecting to find the handful of new friends whom I had met the previous night, but was instead greeted by a large group of other students who had just arrived. Awkwardly, I approached them to introduce myself, but was immediately distracted. She stood there with an unassuming grace that heightened her beauty. I soon felt her gaze turn to me. Suddenly nervous, I avoided her by starting my introductions with the strangers in her opposite direction. Finally I neared her, but quickly froze. I shyly delayed our first meeting even longer, continuing in painful smalltalk with another. Thankfully, the meaningless conversation was interrupted as she slowly turned around to me as though she had been tired of waiting for me to say “hello.” She confidently looked straight into my eyes in a way that forced me to look into hers. My nerves quickly resurfaced. As I hesitantly lifted my hand, she grabbed it with a surprising grip that would free me of my timid restraint. In that moment, I felt as though no one else had ever seen her the same way I had. Still looking at me, she’d say in a gentle voice that would contradict her handshake, “Hi, I’m Lauren.” Six short years later, she still hasn’t let go of my hand. Last August, I asked for hers.
