From the bride… The combination of weather with a season may often invigorate a highly simplistic atmosphere by mere fact that the marriage of these elements is unique. Our wedding was just such an event. How often do you experience a warm day at the beach in union with an exploding aura of fall foliage? Our guess is that days like this are one in a million, specially reserved for outdoor weddings like ours. To symbolize our unity, Ben and I chose to combine sand from a beach in Maine where I grew up and earth from his grandmother’s ranch in Texas where he grew up. My engagement ring and wedding ring were from Tiffany’s, yet another classy symbol of my northeastern heritage. For my husband, I had a local silversmith from Ben’s hometown in Texas design a one-of-a-kind band. Jim Hjelm and J. Crew created a well juxtaposed array of creamy light tones from my dress to Ben’s indigo-navy 3 piece suit, respectively. I wanted my wedding to have classic, nautical colors with a touch of autumn flair to create a cohesive blend between the participants and the natural cathedral in which we were married. The orange accent color can be found in my flowers, in the girls’ shoes, on the cakes, and in the ribbon used to adorn invitations, ceremony programs, and table settings. One of my bridesmaids screen-printed the front of my invitations to give them a personal and organic touch. In lieu of a single, tiered cake, we designed a table dedicated to a large bouquet of 7 cakes, each unique in flavor. After much merriment, a few dances on tables, and a glamorous exit upon my husband’s shoulders, our guests bade us a “Sparkler Farewell” as we drove off into the warm starry night on our private boat. Our guests departed, arms full of blueberry jam that my mother and I had made as favors, and took a leisurely ferry ride back to the mainland.
