I want to marry this wedding. Seriously. I don’t know if it’s the stunning couple, the happy flowers by Flower Talk or the unique, effortless details (all of the above) but this wedding sure pulls on my heart strings. You should definitely read the bride’s words below about the special tradition that the couple has created for their 25th wedding anniversary – so creative & thoughtful! From the Bride… Shannon and I met in 2003, and he proposed on our sixth anniversary while we were holidaying in the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales, U.K. We were living in London at the time so our wedding plans were put on hold until we returned and settled back into life in Perth. I always dreamed of a relaxed outdoor wedding, and after a colleague’s recommendation, we visited Rosehill in Guildford and fell in love with the Stables, the magic grounds and the marquee with vine-covered roof. After finding our gorgeous invites on Etsy, we were excited to incorporate the mustard yellow feature colour, and everything else fell into place from there. Our flowers were by Jappalin from Flower Talk. She did such an incredible job, and understood exactly what we wanted — unique, rustic and fresh – and then took it to another level that was more than we could have asked for.
Our ceremony was held on the grounds and was my favourite part of the day. Seeing Shannon as I walked down the aisle was a very special moment. Keeping with the relaxed theme, two of my close friends did a Dr. Seuss reading, much to the surprise of the guests. We also incorporated a Love Letter tradition into our ceremony where we sealed a bottle of red wine (a yummy Margaret River red!) and love letters we had written the night before the wedding into a wooden case. The idea being if you fall on hard times in the future you can open the bottle of wine and read the letters to remind you how you felt on that day, or if all going well you open the case on your 25th wedding anniversary! After the ceremony, while we had photos in a nearby barn, our guests enjoyed canapés, including BBQ pork crepes and Chinese spoons of rocket, pumpkin, beetroot & Persian feta, while playing lawn games of quoits, croquet and Connect 4. We decided on a standing entrée menu so we were able to enjoy some time on the lawn with our guests before moving to be seated at the reception.
Throughout the venue we had special home-made touches to make the wedding very personable and very us. Shannon made the chalk boards and frames, both of our mums and my sister helped make the jam jar bonbonniere. I also made the cootie catcher menus with quiz questions about Shannon and I for the guest tables to encourage interaction for those guests who didn’t know each other. After the months of planning it was such a buzz to see all the little things come together at the reception venue. Later in the night, all of the speeches were really touching with the best man doing a standout job. We bought a Polaroid camera and along with some chalkboards, our guests were able to leave us fun and interactive messages. It was a laugh reading the book the following day! It was a fabulous day, and our photographer, Teneil Kable, captured every moment perfectly. Nothing was too much hassle for her and all of our family and friends commented on her friendly and easy-going nature.
