From NLC Productions... This rustic-themed, home-based wedding with a modern twist was not only an adventure for Nico Cervantes because the planning process began a year in advance, which is unusual for local Santa Barbara brides, but it was an opportunity for him to work with all of his star vendors to design and create a spectacular landscape with unique ideas for the bride, groom and guests. Taking on the design role, Nico created and executed a cohesive event from start to finish. The bride wavered between her desire for a crisp, modern-themed design and an organic, rustic one, while wanting to incorporate Hawaiian elements, which were representative of her favorite childhood memories. The bride's desired theme was balanced within each element of creative design and each piece was executed with impeccable style, leaving nothing unthought-of. The ceremony structure featured Hawaiian ti leaves, long hanging leis of fuchsia dendrobium orchids and long sprays of purple calla lilies embellishing the crown, while the reception featured a plexiglass-covered pool for the dance floor. This detail not only utilized space more efficiently in the back yard, but added the modern element that the bride and groom desired. Crisp, white, leather lounge sets were offset with mirrored coffee tables and centerpieces of herbs lily grass, moss and succulents. The guest tables balanced the rustic and modern design combination with deep eggplant taffeta linens topped with plum and natural fibered linens. In memory of the bride’s father, the mother of the bride walked her down the aisle dressed in a suit with a fragrant pikake lei and afixed shirt buttons from one of the father’s shirts onto the bouquet.
From the Bride... When my husband and I got engaged, we knew immediately who to call. Within two weeks Nico, his assistant, my mother and I were sitting down for our first meeting. The table was full of photo albums, swatches and idea boards. I browsed through all the amazing things that Nico had done and ideas he had but I simply told him, “I just want to it to be romantic and I want a lot of candlelight.” Nico took that and ran, creating a wedding that in my dreams, I could not even imagine.
Jason and I met when we were working at a restaurant, living in Santa Barbara. He was a server and I was the hostess, working while in college. Jason is from Reno, Nevada, which is something totally new to me, as I grew up in Santa Barbara. We would rush to help each other every time we could, flirting while re-setting tables and putting away menus. Family is the most important thing to me, so he came for Sunday Dinner pretty soon after our first kiss. I remember preparing him, telling him not to be nervous, to just be himself. A few months later, we wanted to move in with each other, but my parents were not excited as it was too soon. Nonetheless he was moved in, and soon after he was part of the family. My Daddy passed away from cancer three years later and I knew Jason was the one because of his support, not only for me, but for my mom and sister. He was a rock in our family when we had just lost one. Our engagement was not surprising, but the planning process and wedding was. My mom helped every step of the way and with the help of Nico, Jason and I had a wedding that was more amazing than I ever dreamed. Each and every moment of our wedding was a dream, but marrying Jason is the ultimate. Our love story continues, but thanks to our family and friends we had a crazy amazing start.
