From the Bride… We wanted our wedding to focus on family, friends, food, and fun. Will and I decided on our wedding date to honor my grandparent’s 61st wedding anniversary. It was a special year in preparation for our wedding since my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer, and this truly gave her a reason to fight. With my Chinese/Italian background, and Will’s Brazilian/Peruvian background, we had family and friends flying from all over the world. We chose Brooklyn because it is where our love began a few years back. Brooklyn’s charm really helped create our day. Our ceremony took place at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in the heart of Brooklyn Heights. I got ready in our brownstone apartment two blocks away — our landlord’s daughter let us use her floor as well as ours. This was special to us since it was our first apartment together. We kept the wedding party small because we wanted it to be intimate, but included our closest friends by having them participate during the church ceremony. The most incredible part of our ceremony was watching my 85-year-old grandfather and 81-year-old grandmother renew their vows in front of 150 people. Looking back at our incredible pictures, I have something special to remember as my grandfather passed two and a half months later. He was truly my grandmother’s other half, and Will and I felt honored to share such a special day with them.

When planning, we used Style Me Pretty for ideas, and we both knew we wanted to use all things Brooklyn and help our neighborhood’s small business owners. We chose The Liberty Warehouse on Pier 41 in Red Hook because of its warehouse feel, incredible views of the Statue of Liberty, and of course the amazing chef. We tried to stick to our theme “Savory & Sweet” by using Steve’s Key Lime Pies and Brooklyn Brine’s Whiskey Sour Pickles as our favors. Ironically enough, Steve’s Key Lime Pies is on the same pier as Liberty Warehouse, at the entrance. With its wooden sign hanging crooked as you walk the pier, this just added to the warehouse feel that The Liberty Warehouse brings you. We love pickles and at 3 a.m. a few months prior to the wedding, I woke up with the idea and emailed Brooklyn Brine to see if they could work with us a do a mass order. They had never done it before and were extremely kind. It seemed to be a hit as I noticed people munching away into the wee hours of the night. One of the most memorable parts of our wedding was that my mother made my wedding gown and veil. Watching her make such an incredible piece of art was something that I will never forget. She put such love, patience and care into each ruffle she sewed on by hand. Our wedding was truly incredible. I remember our photographer taking Will and I outside for a few photos later in the evening. For those few minutes, I remember taking a breath and thinking of how lucky we both were to have such an amazing family and such wonderful friends.
