It’s why I can’t even start, because the minute I listed my favorite detail crafted by this oh so talented interior designer Bride, I would then be forced to list another. So instead, my lovelies, my Pinterest account is going to be overflowing with every.single.image in the full gallery, and I will be hanging out in the comments all morning to see what you love most. Because, trust me with all your wedding-loving heart, you are going to LOVE this wedding.

From Melissa of Melissa Schollaert Photography… Lisa is an interior designer, and her modern and elegant style really showed through in her wedding design. A fresh green, gray and white palette was just enough modern elegance to contrast nicely with the old, historic King Plow Arts Center. Her modern signage by Hi Note and all-white, textured cake by Frosted Pumpkin really stood out against the rough, brick walls of the building. Their food really reflected both the bride’s and groom’s roots — Southern specialties such as biscuits, macaroni & cheese and fried green tomatoes showcased the bride’s roots, while Latin specialties such as asada flank steak and Spanish rice highlighted the groom’s heritage. The couple really got creative when it came to the reception — the head table was decorated with thousands of white hydrangeas that spilled of of the table and on to the floor. The bride’s Dad engineered an entire cable system that was attached to the ceiling structure above the dance floor and held hundreds of small terrariums filled with candles and fresh orchids. Everything was just so fresh and so fun, just like the couple!
From the Bride…Nelson and I met the summer of 2008 at a party I threw at my house and we were introduced by a friend of Nelson’s – we hit it off instantly. We had summer of dinner dates, fun nights out dancing and a lot of good laughs. I fell for Nelson immediately for his sense of humor and outgoing personality. We really became best friends – I think the mutual love, trust, and respect for each other is what got us through rough times and made the good times so special. We bought a fixer upper house together in 2011 and we put our blood sweat and in tears into transforming the old house into our home. Two months after our purchase Nelson proposed to me in our new kitchen, a memory we will cherish forever.
The planning of the wedding came quite naturally and developed in an organic way. Being that Nelson and I were both born and raised in Atlanta, we wanted our city to play a major role in the theme. We chose King Plow Arts Center for several reasons, one because of the history of the building , and two because it had such a unique look and feel to the space. I instantly had a vision of bringing together a simple modern look and a classic vintage feel. Most importantly we wanted the design of the wedding to be “us”. Nelson and I decided on nearly every detail together and it was a very fun experience for us – our goal was simple we wanted our guests to have the time of their life and to create a memory for them through the event. Through the amazing vendors we pulled together and the help and support of family and friends it came together just as we had imagined.
I have to take a moment to discuss where everything came from and who worked the magic behind the key design details of our wedding. While I drew on my interior design background to come up with all the schematics and design the event, it would have been nothing without my family – especially my amazingly talented mom. She is a fabulous florist in Madison, GA and has been hugely successful in her venture there and the weddings she has done etc – but of course this wedding was different. Because it was her youngest daughter’s wedding and because it was a slight departure design wise from the weddings she is usually commissioned to do. We had many meetings with her and my aunt, who played the role of wedding planner, and it didn’t take long for my mom to get behind the modern simple look I was going for. She took my ideas and ran with them and the finished product was above and beyond my wildest hopes or expectations. If I have to choose my favorite floral feature, which is really difficult, I believe I would have to go with my stunning orchid bouquet that my mom surprised me with. I gave her several ideas and options and told her to surprise me the day of with the one she felt like was most “me” and she knocked it out of the park. The bouquet was like nothing I had ever seen before and it was truly breath taking. Aside from just my mom my whole family came together to make the event over the top – my sister individually embroidered 180 napkins, my dad engineered and implemented the hanging glass globes, my aunt and her husband did the specialty gobo lighting, my other aunt as I mentioned was our fantastic wedding planner. This made us feel so loved and brought such a personal touch to our day, not to mention saved our budget!
At the end of the day the event went off without a hitch – literally. Everything went as planned and everything was wonderful. The space looked gorgeous. The food and drinks were beyond delicious and the Bold American staff was a joy to work with. Our cake was outstanding. All the paper design tied the whole feel of the event together. We danced the night away to our favorite songs. Our families and friends joined together and bonded and had a complete blast. It was truly the best night of our lives!
One piece of advice that I was given and I remembered on my wedding day that I would like to pass on to bride’s to be – Be present on your big day. It’s easy to get caught up in the madness of the day and get carried away and let the time slip by. But remember whatever is going to happen will happen – so sit back relax and take it all in. Oh and get an amazing photographer like we did who will capture your big day exactly the way it felt so you can relive the moments you might not remember!
