An Autumn, vintage travel themed, destination wedding on the Maine Coastline. Yep. We have died and gone to heaven this morning. Everything about this wedding, planned to perfection by Maine Seasons Events, is fabulously Fall, wonderfully Maine, and exactly the couple. Including the amazing images from David Murray Weddings. We met in NYC. We dated for about a year, before I surprised Bonnie with a weekend getaway to Jamaica for her birthday. I told her only to pack for the beach, and she had no idea where we were going until we walked up to the Air Jamaica ticket counter at JFK. The next morning, while we took a walk along the water, I surprised her with her engagement ring. After we called our families and emailed our friends we got to spend the rest of the weekend quietly, day dreaming about the MAINE EVENT!
We knew that we didn’t want to have the wedding in Colorado (Bonnie’s home state) or NYC (my home). We wanted our friends and family to come and really enjoy the weekend somewhere that was special to both of us, not just to one of us. I had gone to college in Maine, and the two of us started going to Portland for short vacations to enjoy the scenery and amazing food. We had both fallen in love with the area, and knew this would be the one time in our lives to get all of our friends and family to Maine.
Autumn in coastal Maine presented us with an immediate palette for the wedding, and from our first phone call with Meagan at Maine Seasons Events, we knew she was the only way we were going to pull off this weekend. She was instrumental in helping us bring our general vision to a detailed reality. She worked intimately with every vendor to make sure the wedding style ebbed and flowed and had its own personality. The thing we respected and loved about working with Meagan was that she worked with us and helped us dream. We were nervous at first about hiring a wedding planner, fearing that they were going to change our ideas, but Meagan did just the opposite, enhancing every detail and every moment and the day of the wedding was amazing. Maine Seasons Events took care of EVERYTHING so we could all relax and enjoy the day.
Before we were even engaged, we had discussions about how if we were to get married, we would want the day to be as much about our friends and family as it was about the two of us. It was a unique chance to bring together all of these amazing people from different parts of our lives, and create this community around us. We really mixed up the seating and sat our friends and families with people we wanted them to meet rather than people they already knew, and everyone had a great time. Every detail was about trying to express not only our love for each other, but our love for everyone there, and to give our guests a weekend they would never forget.
