From Beth of Beth Helmstetter Events… Amy and Jason dreamed of a grown-up wedding. There’s no other way to say it! Nothing too cutesy or trendy — just timeless sophistication all the way! Both have a huge passion for downtown Los Angeles and the history the area holds. To pair this with their vision for an Old Hollywood celebration, they chose the Vibiana, a historic centerpiece of the downtown area with amazing architecture, as their venue, giving us the perfect palette to create their classic, black tie fete.
The ceremony took place on the altar of the venue with the perfect lighting highlighting every piece of architectural perfection inside of the Vibiana. For a modern twist, the couple was surrounded by towers of clean vessels filled with orchids, amaranthus and calla lilies, as well as lots and lots of candlelight. Large-scale pepper trees framed the guests as they sat in French reproduction chairs that appeared straight out of the 1920’s. The bride carried a bouquet of cattelaya lilies while entering to “Legends of the Fall” played by a 14-piece string orchestra, while bridesmaids wore black gowns accented with vintage brooches and the groom dressed in a quintessential black tuxedo.
For cocktail hour, guests sipped on Prohibition-era cocktails, such as whiskey sours blended with egg whites, classic gin martinis and champagne cocktails. The garden’s focal point was a 24-foot wood bar that we built for the day to ensure guests knew this was a true celebration. For dinner, the interior of Vibiana was transitioned into a glamorous dinner party, complete with a 22-piece band with a Sinatra singer. It was a breathtaking vision as guests dined on their five-course meal. We paired three separate textures on the tables to create a more sophisticated palette to build the rest of the design. Some tables were topped with linens made of ribbons, some were raw silk and some even had a subtle chevron pattern. We finished the tables with mirrors, overflowing vessels of modern blooms and lots and lots of candlelight. Classic black calligraphy on ivory cardstock was used for table numbers, place cards and menus, and vintage lounge furniture framed the dance floor. The candlelight created the perfect ambience. For the cake, we hunted high and low for the perfect vintage topper and placed it upon a traditional white wedding cake which was surrounded by an abundance of sweet treats that guests nibbled on before dancing the night away. All in all, it was the perfect day that felt sophisticated and luxurious while still remaining intimate and warm. We loved being a part of it!
