From Gloria of Gloria Wong DesignSoomin is a curator at a private gallery in Korea. Chung’s parents reside in the Bay Area. The Asian Art Museum in San Francisco seemed like a natural choice for the wedding. Soomin’s favorite color is navy blue. Every time I had met with her, she wore navy blue. Navy was a must for the wedding. We asked Hartmann Studios to reupholster their Deco chairs in a lush, navy blue velvet. We dressed all the dinner tables in navy linens. We wrapped vases in custom-printed navy and white geometric fabric. The stark contrast between navy and white was crisp, bold, and stunning inside the stone walls of the museum.

Soomin’s style is sleek and modern. So we decided to keep all the details clean and streamlined. The centerpieces consisted of groupings of mono-flower arrangements. Only calla lilies. Only orchids. Only hydrangea. Only tulips. All in white. All in clean cylindrical glass vases. The escort card display was composed of neat rows of chocolates. Each piece of chocolate featured a custom-printed geometric pattern and a number for guests to find their respective tables. The dessert display consisted of sweet treats resting on top of calla lilies that were encased in acrylic cubes. The whole spread laid on top of illuminated acrylic pedestals. Soomin’s Oscar de la Renta ruffled gown was the inspiration for the wedding cake. The photo of her dress sweeping across the floor of the museum behind the wedding cake is one of my favorites of all time. She was absolutely radiant that day. She beamed as she slowly moved across the room to take in all the decor.
