Stowe Wedding from Sabin Gratz Photography + The Painted Tulip

Any wedding at which the guests leave with a packet of dried herbs – some of which were grown in the bride’s own garden – is a wedding I can love. Especially when there are mountains in plain sight and the floral design is guaranteed to be gorgeous, and it always is when The Painted Tulip is behind it. So when photos from Sabin Gratz Photography of a simply stunning Vermont affair landed in my lap, it was love at first sight. And second sight, and third sight, and a full gallery of lovely sights!

Adam and I migrated north to the Green Mountain State in June of 2010. We were immediately blown away by Vermont’s natural beauty and knew we wanted to make our home here. Adam proposed a month later while on a hike up one of the more prominent features of the landscape, Camel’s Hump. We both love mountains and wanted to incorporate that into our wedding. After examining the feasibility of hiking up a mountain with friends, family, and a wedding dress, we opted to look at places with easier access. We fell in love with the The Cliff House, located at 3,625 feet on Vermont’s tallest mountain, Mount Mansfield. It had amazing views and a rustic charm that I knew would make our day perfect for us.

I chose a theme that was nature-inspired and elegant with a touch of whimsy, playing off the style of The Cliff House. Each table at the reception was named and decorated with one of several different herbs, and guest favors were muslin bags of dried herbs, some of which were grown in my community garden, with recipes attached. Our wedding day ended with a sparkler send-off and a surreal gondola ride down the mountain as husband and wife.
