From the Bride… My husband Pat and I were married on August 13, 2011 at Beano’s Cabin, located in Beaver Creek, Colorado. We are from Baltimore, Maryland and decided we wanted to have a small destination wedding. We love Colorado and thought a Rocky Mountain wedding would be completely different than any other wedding we had been to. We wanted our wedding to be a great party with amazing food, good music and an awesome atmosphere. We had never been to Beaver Creek and stumbled upon it in our search for Colorado destinations. We planned a trip out there to check out venues and meet with a potential wedding planner and florist. Lucky for us, we found our dream location right away and fell in love with the wedding planner and florist. Planning a destination wedding was stress-free because we had such great people to work with. My talented cousin, Jen, graphic designer and co-owner of THINKsf, designed our wedding package, which included rehearsal and wedding invitations, programs, place cards and luggage tag favors. I found inspiration online for my colors, which were peach, sage and gray. Beano’s Cabin is very rustic, which I liked, but I also wanted things to appear chic and tasteful. I decided on mainly white flowers with dark greenery, which would be easy to match with Beano’s decor and our attire. Our florist, Alicia, was absolutely wonderful. I wanted things to look organic and natural but at the same time stylish. Alicia completely understood that. I wanted the same for the wedding party and our looks.
In Colorado, you can have anyone marry you, so we chose Pat’s uncle to do the job. He had no experience but the three of us worked together and wrote the whole ceremony ourselves. One of the best compliments we received at our wedding was that the ceremony reflected Pat and me with such meaning because it came directly from us. Pat’s uncle was so funny and awesome and kept a smile on our faces. We went completely original with our ceremony and cocktail music using sweet, high-altitude tunes from our favorite blue grass and jam bands that echoed through the mountains. The concept of a first dance freaked both of us out, and we decided early on not to do it. Pat had given me a PSI hula hoop as my wedding gift, so we decided last minute — literally right after dinner — that I would do a hoop dance to the String Cheese Incident’s cover of “Rock the Casbah” instead.
Everything — the weather, the food, the service, the setting, the help of our vendors — was flawless. We could not have asked for a more perfect day that we will never forget. Having a destination wedding gives us a great excuse to travel back to that amazing place and relive the best day of our lives. Beaver Creek is magical, and I will never forget all the amazing feelings and emotions that were shared there. A special shout out to our incredibly talented photographer, Jenna Walker, and her husband Matt. Our images capture the day as if you are there in that moment. I cannot tell you how many compliments we have gotten on our photos.
