North Stonington, Connecticut Wedding from Justin & Mary

To call this wedding pretty would be an understatement. It’s beyond pretty. It’s BEYOND beyond pretty. It’s lavender and vineyards, it’s romance and love, it’s ring bearers and roses. It’s perfection, all wrapped up in amazing images from Justin & Mary. And we’ve tied it with a bow in the gallery just for you!

Having the wedding at a winery gave us a great foundation for all of the other details. But it was important that we didn’t take away from what made the location so great, but instead added cues that made it feel like US.

Everyone kept telling us not to obsess over the details because in the end no one would really remember them. To us, the details meant the chance to spend more time together and an opportunity to make our wedding truly unique and special. We wanted to leverage the personality behind wine our love for traveling around Europe, and especially France. So we worked closely with our designer, Robin Kornett to find unique ways of bringing those ideas to life. For instance, she found a great way incorporate a wax stamp of a dove that we bought at a small paperie in Venice. This small element was carried through so much of our stationary for the day. Our “save-the-date” made use of a vintage style, French postcard that our guests used to RSVP. Our final invitation was sent in a wooden envelope with a simulated “wood burn” stamp on the back, tying it back to the wood of a wine barrel, and organic textures that surround a winery. We wanted it to feel rustic, and european, without feeling country picnic.

Stephen and I are definitely both “foodies” and wanted to share that experience with our friends by putting together a meal not found at most weddings. From the appetizers to the desserts, each course was carefully thought out with a playful touch. A Thyme to Cook really embraced our suggestions and personalities, incorporating them into the final menu. We wanted everyone to be just as excited about the meal as we were.

And the adventure continued, as a hurricane hit exactly one week before our big day leaving us and many of our vendors without power the whole week! So, there we were making lavender cones together by candle light asking each other “this is romantic, right?” what else could we do but laugh about it? All of those little details are now memories and we’ll never forget how the power at the winery where our wedding was held came on at 4pm, just in time for our 6pm reception.

Ultimately it came together perfectly. All our favorite people were there to share our special day, the food and wine, music and dancing into the evening – we couldn’t have imagined it any other way.
