When you put so much love into each and every aspect of your wedding it definitely shows creating an emotion-filled, personal, heart-melting day that perfectly reflects you as a couple. That is certainly the case with this Jensen Beach wedding. You can just feel the love exuding out of every image by Dillon Photo. From the Bride… I met my future husband Dave, a little over one year before we got engaged, and I knew right from the beginning of our relationship that he was “the one”. And once you find the one you want to spend the rest of your life with, why wait for the rest of your life to begin? This is why we only had a six month engagement. It is funny how life can be so bittersweet — going into planning mode for our big day, I had a hard time coming to terms with the fact that my father would not be with us because he had passed away two years prior. What helped me through this was being able to bring special little Chinese touches to our wedding day that would reflect a part of my father’s ethnic background — from the Buddha name card holders and Chinese takeout boxes for the candy table, to my favorite part of the night — the flying Chinese lanterns — I knew there wouldn’t be a moment of the day that I could look at these things and not smile.
Every part of our wedding day, I had my hands on. Even if we could have afforded an event planner, I probably would have had a hard time letting someone else take control! With a small budget and a beautiful blank canvas to work with, I let my creativity run wild. I found many of my DIY ideas from websites such as Style Me Pretty and Etsy. Some of my favorite projects my fiancé and I worked on were the sign for the flip-flops and basket (Kick off your heels and stay a while!), the Mr. & Mrs. chair signs, the wedding tree thumbprint picture (I painted the tree), the signature sangria drink sign, and our personal favorite: the ceremony/reception sign that my fiance made and I painted!
Our wedding day was hectic because we had to get everything done without seeing each other until I walked down the aisle, but I think it just made the day more unforgettable. The vibe of the day was exactly what we wanted: everyone (else) was relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed the natural beauty of the environment and decor. Every little thing fell into place, and, not to sound like every other bride, but the day just flew by! There were so many memories from our special day that I know we will cherish forever, and one of the most important ones will be that my mother-in-law was there with us. Six days after our wedding, she passed away. Life is short, but sweet. Even though my father was not with us, my mother (and sister) were, and Dave had both his parents with us on our special day. Family is the most important part of who we are, and with all of our loved ones surrounding us, we couldn’t have asked for anything more. My advice to all the brides to be out there: its OK to sweat the small stuff (in private, of course!), and you know how you swallow an elephant? One bite at a time. :)
