Give me a vibrant wedding with Bollywood dancing any day and I’ll shake my little, no-rhythm, Indian Wedding-loving boo-tay. Especially if said soiree takes place in a locale so grandeur and iconic, like the San Francisco City Hall. Kim and Niki, Photographers, I NEED to thank you ladies for not just perfectly capturing the energy and love of this special couple, but sending it our way so we can all gush over every special detail of the day!
Our paths crossed in medical school, and after three years of library dates and ping-pong study breaks, Sumit popped the question in an elaborate proposal where he sent a fake invitation to Meera for The American Medical Women’s Association to represent Stanford. But instead the limo that picked her up was indeed hired by Sumit to disk her away to the same spot as their first date, on the Stanford golf course. As we sat on the bench at the 18th tee, overlooking the sunset, Sumit pulled out a scrap book he had beautifully crafted which ended in four pictures of him holding a large sign saying “Will – you- marry – me?”
After graduation, we moved to San Francisco to begin our residencies and fell in love with the city, and decided to get married in the iconic City Hall. We wanted to honor many of our traditional customs, while adding a flare of San Francisco. We shuttled our guests in cable cars though downtown SF to the wedding venue as they danced to Indian music. Our wedding took place over several days, in true Indian fashion, with a bridal henna party, traditional folk dance party (raas/garba), procession of the groom on a white horse, and lots of Bollywood dancing.
Our favorite moments included our secret first sight before the ceremony, speeches from our closest friends and family, a decorated dessert table showcasing our favorite treats including milk-and-cookie shots, and my personal favorite, a serenade to my husband at the reception! We were so blessed to have such fantastic vendors, with a very special thanks to our photographers and florist who made our day an unforgettable one.
