Kyoto Grand Hotel and Gardens Wedding by B&G Photography
I need to take a moment to gush about the husband and wife team behind B&G Photography. Their images tell such a lovely story. From the Bride & Groom... We are excited to share with you our wedding, held at the Kyoto Grand Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles and shot by the amazing husband and wife team of B&G Photography. Gary and I live downtown and got engaged with the Los Angeles skyline as our backdrop, so we wanted our wedding to showcase this special part of the city. We had our first look and pre-wedding pictures at the historic Union Station, and our event was held on a rooftop urban garden. Additionally, Gary is Jewish and I am Vietnamese Catholic, so it was important for us to tie in our cultures and traditions throughout the day. During the ceremony, I held my mother’s rosary wrapped around my bouquet. We stood underneath a chuppah draped in his great-grandfather’s tallit and used his great-grandfather’s Kiddush cup as well. I worked with a Catholic priest and rabbi to design a ceremony that equally represented both religions. We incorporated Jewish elements, such as a wine blessing, or kiddushin, and had Gary’s cousins read the Seven Blessings in both English and Hebrew. To represent my Catholic faith, we had readings from the Old and New Testament and a traditional unity candle-lighting ceremony. Many guests complimented how personal and unique our wedding ceremony felt and how everyone was left learning something new about each other’s traditions.
The Kyoto Grand Hotel’s rooftop garden was perfect for us because it was small, intimate, and felt like an oasis in the middle of the downtown skyscrapers. I didn’t have a specific color scheme, but wanted everything to reflect our springtime wedding by using soft, muted colors. The bridesmaids all chose their dresses and accessories with this in mind, and I think they did a fantastic job of anchoring the elegant, romantic, and urban theme of the big day. Their dresses, in colors of soft sage, dusty pink, silver, and taupe tied into the colors of the flowers, which consisted of Sahara and Anna roses, hydrangeas and dusty miller. The groomsmen echoed their individuality by wearing their choice of black tuxedos accompanied by slim silver ties that were gifted to them.
For the reception, we continued our celebration of our cultures and families with a challah and wine blessing said in Hebrew by Gary’s uncle and had a welcome blessing said by my uncle, who is a priest. One of my favorite parts of the night was having a live band and having everyone participate in the celebratory hora. I was able to change into an exit dress at the end of the night and leave with Gary amongst a sea of bubbles. I couldn’t have asked for a more special day!
