When this fun, modern inspiration shoot came my way I was first struck by the super cool couple. They are so chic and stylish and just a little bit edgy in the most perfect way. Plus they are totally and obviously in love which makes these photos by Renee Brock Photography that much more awesome. The watercolor and air plant inspiration that Courtney Khail Stationery and Design put together completely captures the same, fresh vibe with artsy, organic details. There are so many creative and unique ideas to take away from this shoot from the ombre table runner to the drafting studio-inspired guest book table. See it all in the full gallery!

From Courtney of courtney khail stationery and design… Our models are actually designers who are married in real life. Six years ago they eloped in Las Vegas and never had the opportunity to take wedding photos together. While all of us vendors had a great time creating the shoot, we agreed that our favorite part of the whole day was seeing the love these two shared and being able to provide them both with a “wedding” and real wedding photos. There’s something incredibly special about creating something that celebrates true love.
The concept of this inspiration shoot evolved from a stationery design I created that consisted of various air plants. As a watercolor artist, I was immediately drawn to the subtle, unique color palettes air plants possess. I also loved their ability to be both structural and organic at the same time and wanted to create an event that would capture their unique qualities. Together with planner Jaimie Cohen of Estoria Social, we worked to make that vision come to life. We wanted to keep the shoot fresh and modern, taking inspiration from watercolors and air plants, while also introducing an underlying architectural theme to connect the plants with their surroundings. Before we knew it, we’d created a story about a couple who fell in love while studying architecture and wanted their wedding to incorporate their love for that, as well as their unique modern flair. In the end, we wanted to create a one-of-a-kind shoot that would inspire couples to try something different and encourage them to fully express themselves.
The watercolor invitation suite captured the various colors of the air plant, which are carried throughout the entire shoot. The graphic black ink brings in a modern touch and the handwritten wording adds an intimate touch. The bouquet was created by Amy Osaba and features large colorful air plants among brightly colored blooms. The different blooms bring in texture and mimic the bodice of the bride’s dress. The centerpiece consisted of a handmade balsa wood container painted to resemble an architectural metal beam and filled with a lush arrangement of various colored air plants and succulents. Modern meets organic by combining hand painted gold stemware with antique cream and gold place settings. Watercolor touches are brought in through the menus and table numbers, as well as a hand-dyed gray ombre runner. A watercolor escort card display further combines the industrial and organic themes. As a favor, each guest received an air plant at their seat. A simple white cake is decorated with air plants and displayed atop design books and an antique metal card catalog. Architectural drawings are tied off with gold ribbon and placed in a gold mesh container to reference the couple’s background. With the guest book table, we wanted to evoke the feeling of a studio drafting table. To do this, we covered the table top with vellum architectural drawings, brought in drafting tools, and had guests leave notes to the couple in sketch books. To add depth and texture, Mao of Four Inch Fold created bunting from pages of an architecture book and Courtney of Courtney Khail Stationery and Design hand-painted a gold and white backdrop.
