After tying the knot in a seriously gorgeous ceremony, these two lovebirds snuck away to dine together in a private location overlooking the rolling hills of Texas Hill Country. Fabulous, no?!? And once their first meal as husband and wife was complete, they joined their guests in a reception that will seriously knock.your.socks off with pretty blooms by Last Petal and sweet, vibrant hues. From the Bride… The feeling of the day was relaxed elegance and was largely inspired by our venue, a Mediterranean-style theater nestled in the Texas hill country. Mediterranean-inspired colors, such as teal, coral, copper and moss, made appearances throughout the night. The most important thing to us was to make sure our guests had a great time — we wanted to make them all feel like one big family and allow them to experience the day with all their senses. One way we accomplished our goal was by making sure the food was delicious and abundant. We decided on family-style service – it helped spark conversation at the table and ensured people got to pile on their favorites. Later on in the evening, we helped them soak up the spirits consumed with a late night snack of every Southern couple’s favorite: chicken and waffles.
The décor was an eclectic mix of all kinds of containers and greenery, from succulents to tulips, that allowed us to both honor our Texas hill country surroundings and give a nod to my Dutch heritage. Vines and ivy surrounding the venue were an unexpected yet welcome surprise given the dry Austin summer. To get all guests involved in the bouquet and garter toss, we opened up the floor to everyone, not just the singles. And to entice participation, we slipped $100 into each ensuring some good healthy competition! We splurged on getting custom invitations made, but then used those as inspiration for other paper items that we did ourselves. We printed the programs on heavy card stock in colors matching the theme, then tied it all together with twine. Our florist spray painted small clay pots a warm copper color and filled them with succulents, which acted as both escort cards and giveaways. We found a Mediterranean-inspired pattern to border each name on the escort card, then printed those on two-sided business cards glued to kebab sticks. My mother made the veil using silk tulle and the maid of honor beaded the entire hem on both sides to ensure it glittered no matter how it fell.
One of my most memorable moments was actually a fantastic recommendation by our wedding planner to have a private dinner and spend some quality time together. We enjoyed our dinner on a secluded balcony watching the sun set over Texas hill country while our guests enjoyed cocktail hour. It eliminated our fear of having to eat while all our guests watched and ensured we got to actually eat!
