From the Bride… Overall, I just wanted a day full of family and love. Family is so important to both Jason and me. It was important for our wedding to reflect that. My matron of honor, Maggie, she and I have been best friends since we were three. I knew she would stand next to me on my wedding day. However, the only other people I could imagine standing with me were my brothers. I love my brothers more than anything, and it was special to have them stand next to me on that day. My uncle Bob officiated our wedding. He baptized me as a baby, and I wanted him to be the one to marry Jason and me.

Jason and I met when I was 13 and he was 14. We dated for a very short time in what could best be described as a puppy love stage. When Jason was going into his sophomore year, and I was going into my freshman year, we started talking again and had more of a traditional courtship. By the time Jason’s senior year rolled around, we had some major life changes about to come our way. He was headed off to college, and my dad had just accepted a new job which would require my mom and I to move to Raleigh, North Carolina. At that time, Jason chose to go to Clemson University. I was a little disappointed he didn’t choose a school closer to Raleigh, but as fate would have it, a year later I began school at Western Carolina University (a short hour and twenty minute drive to Clemson). During my senior year of high school, Jason visited me a few times and vice versa. When Jason and I were both in college, we visited each other nearly every weekend. After dating in college, Jason finally graduated and moved back home for a short period of time. I knew that I would be attending graduate school at Western Carolina, and Jason applied for graduate school there too. We were finally at the same school in the same town. After a year of firsts and not killing each other, Jason and I knew the path we were on: marriage. One spring weekend, my parents came up to visit, and Jason asked for my dad’s permission for my hand in marriage. After exams that spring semester (2010), Jason and I took a trip to Asheville, NC to a bed and breakfast to celebrate. On Saturday, May 9th, after a romantic dinner, we took a walk down to this little pond behind the property. Jason was so nervous that I even asked him if he was tired from the VERY short stroll down to the pond. Finally, he got down on one knee and asked, “Will you be my wife?” I was stunned at first, but quickly realized what was going on and happily said, “Of course!”

My shoes were nothing special, just some cheapos from Dillard’s. They were on sale, seemed to match the dress and were relatively comfortable. My flip-flops … now that’s a story. My Aunt Tami (who lives in NYC) was sitting at a bar next to this lady. They ended up chatting and discussed the businesses they were in. This lady makes specialized flip-flops. So my aunt had her make me a pair! It was a wonderful surprise! My earrings were my “something borrowed.” They were the same earrings my sister-in-law wore six years ago at her wedding when she married my oldest brother. It was special to be able to share that with her. I had a piece of my mom’s veil rolled up that I pinned to by bouquet as my “something old”. It was a last minutes idea. I have always loved my mom’s veil because it had daises along the border. So she and I cut out some of the veil and created a little sentimental accessory. My hairpiece was one of my favorite pieces! I think it added a dramatic but yet sassy flare to the day. It made me feel “beachy” without being on the beach.
