From the Bride… My husband and I had about a year and a half to plan our wedding, so there was plenty of time for planning and being creative. We knew from the beginning that we wanted to have a smaller, more intimate wedding with vintage charm and lots of DIY projects. We chose Lake Travis in Austin, Texas as the location of our ceremony and reception. The weather was perfect and our yellow and gray color scheme looked wonderful on such a sunny spring day. The ceremony was decorated very simply with bunches of baby’s breath lining the aisles and yellow rose petals scattered on the floor. The cross that was displayed up front was something my dad made just for the occasion out of some trees he had cut down. My husband and I are both religious people, and we wanted to include that side of us somehow. Having my dad make that cross was the perfect way to do it.
One of my favorite DIY touches we included was the yellow, gray, and ivory poms. We were able to hang them outside in the trees and inside over the tables at the reception. We chose white table cloths and laid burlap table runners over them for a simple feel at the reception. Our florist did a wonderful job decorating the tables with vases and glass bottles filled with baby’s breath and beautiful yellow flowers. Since my husband and I met at Baylor, we decided to toast with old-fashioned glass Dr. Pepper bottles. Dr. Pepper is our favorite soda and the official soft drink of Baylor University. Instead of having the traditional slideshow with pictures of the two of us, my husband built a wooden post for us to hang some childhood pictures up. Guests enjoyed looking at the pictures as they were being seated and throughout the day. For our favors, we wanted to do something really special and meaningful. On both sides of family, we have had people struggle with kidney disease, so we decided to donate a gift to the American Kidney Fund in our guests’ names. I think everyone loved it, and it meant a lot to us that we were able to put that money towards a greater cause.
At the end of the day, we were very happy with how everything turned out. Not everything went perfectly, but I don’t think we would change a thing. It was so beautiful how all of our friends and family really came together to make our vision come true. Our vendors were wonderful as well and really helped capture the perfect day. There is no way we could have done everything on our own, and we are so grateful to those people who were able to help.
